EXCLUSIVE: Hammers target ‘proven’ £7m striker

|

gomisWest Ham are considering making a £7 million move for Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis.

Gomis has been on the club’s radar for several months and, with a £7 million release clause in his contract, he is becoming a priority target.

The Irons have been keen on the 30-year-old for some time but have regularly been knocked back by Swans chairman Huw Jenkins.

However, the Irons hope the arrival of Andrew Ayew has changed the club’s attitude and the we are hoping that Gomis may now be available.

The 30-year-old scored 10 goals last season and has been on target in the Swans opening games against Chelsea and Newcastle.

He has three years left on his Swansea deal and was keen to move on in January – and the Hammers could now be ready to test the water with a bid.

The player is contracted until 2018, but under the terms of the buy out clause they would need to allow Gomis and his advisers the opportunity of speaking to the Hammers.

A top Irons source told ClaretandHugh exclusively:”With that sort of buy-out figure he’s a very interesting proposition.”

This one seems to come up all the time, he is pacy and a handful but another unlikely to get more than 10 goals a season.

  • bubs says:

Just another one we waste a week not buying, they are not going to sell him full stop,
If they do he will be more like £12 million,
There are forwards out there for sale,no more bull ****e go and buy one or tell us we are not buying,
There are forwards out there to loan,go and do it or put the no more business sign up,

Waste of money this guy and im sure his got some medical problem aswell. Lets get a Championship striker they are great value for money and can score a nice amount of goals. Its beyond me why we keep looking far and wide for a striker, when we got great talent on our door step.

What’s happening on the Huddelstone front ?… Go get him and forget Austin ( 15 mill is a joke ) . How many strikers are we actually , actively pursueing right now with no closure on any target . Huddelstone would be perfect , in my opinion , and at a price closer to reality .
Everyone was raving about Kean last season , but he has lost his touch , the same would happen with Austin , I’m sure of it . We would end up with a White Elephant .

  • billy hammer says:

Why would you forget Austin to go get Huddlestone? One is a midfielder, one is a striker. As for Austin being a white elephant, really aint sure what you base that on,the guy has scored everywhere he has been consistently for quite a few seasons now.Kean? lost on that one!

Saw my mistake too late ; should have said Kane ,, got a mixed up with spelling .
But I stand by what I said ,, Austin could turn into a bad expensive investment .
I think there is maybe , a little too much emphasise being put on the need for a Striker .
A good strong midfielder is a better bet , in my view . And Huddlestone would fit the bill .
Noble needs substituting in most games and Nolan is past it .. The midfield is more of a weakness than the attack . Get the ball out to the offensive players and we have enough until Valencia & Carroll return to fitness .

  • slaven a laugh says:

Why don’t you folks listen to the official news coming out of the club which says we are not going to sign a striker domestically because they are too expensive. All our striker bids are for players abroad. As for midfield we are still looking to bring back Alex song.

  • billy hammer says:

I did listen to it.Doesnt mean i cant still ask Kev a question though does it 😉

  • SA Bubbles says:

Championship Strikers are not expensive and they don’t need a YEAR to adapt ,Not like the South American lads.

  • DJHammer says:

Swansea is on the coast, correct?

Yeah, thought something smelt fishy, herring I think, of the red variety no less!
