Transfer report: West Ham offered ANOTHER journeyman
West Ham United are reportedly one of the clubs offered the opportunity to sign Marco Reus on a free transfer when his contract at Borussia Dortmund expires this summer.
The experienced German forward has had a remarkable career at Dortmund, amassing over 400 appearances for the Bundesliga giants since joining 12 years ago. However, his contract is set to end this season.
Whilst Reus has been a top player in his prime, it’s evident that, at 35 years of age, his best days are behind him. Whilst I’ve always admired the versatile forward, signing him would be a backward step for West Ham. The club already has the second oldest squad in the Premier League, and with players like Ben Johnson and Divin Mubama expected to leave in July, that statistic is likely to worsen.
Additionally, as reported on Claret & Hugh, Flynn Downes is also expected to depart permanently. With key players in their early twenties leaving, adding Reus to an already aging squad would seem imprudent unless the Hammers are considering entering a team in the senior walking football league.
