Transparent goalposts will improve VAR

|

The FA and Premier League are planning to trial AERO-GEL transparent goal posts to assist with VAR camera angles. The material is considered the world’s lightest solid where the liquid is extracted and replaced with gas. The semi-transparent product will allow the ball and players to be shown through the posts, thus assisting VAR with blocked camera angles.

Aerogels are a class of synthetic porous ultralight material derived from a gel, in which the liquid component for the gel has been replaced with a gas, without significant collapse of the gel structure. The result is a solid material which can be moulded to any shape but this is the first time they have been used to create a large and strong structure.

West Ham has been the victim of many wrong VAR decisions this season and it is hoped that making goal posts transparent will cut down several of those errors.

Post noon Update: Obviously an April Fools’ story and not remotely true 😉
