Vida? Oh please – here we go again!

|

The Turkish media – not people with the best record in transfer news  – are again linking Domagoj Vida with a move to England and name West Ham and Norwich City keen.

Turkish newspaper Takvim claim the Besiktas central defender is a target ahead of the January transfer window.

The former Dynamo Kyiv defender has been reported as being one of the best players for Besiktas this season and has made 14 appearances for the Super Lig club.

Vida’s contract with the Turkish club will expire at the end of June 2022.

ClaretandHugh says: And so it begins – six weeks ahead of time. That’s no surprise from Turkey where the vast majority of rumours can be assigned to the scrap heap as soon as they appear. In this case they seem to be following a common view that for reasons which defeat most of those who follow the Hammers closely, we need another central defender. The fact that we have Issa Diop, The General, Angelo Ogbonna, Winston on his way back and the increasingly impressive Goncalo Cardoso, seems to escape those keen to get any story out there which may produce a few clicks. Given our earlier story that a couple or perhaps three current first teamers will need to be dropped from the squad to accommodate new arrivals is another good reason to ignore this yarn. WE need a striker, left back and defensive midfielder of real quality right now and we bring out our old favourite the rumour rater to make the point even more emphatically in this case.
