Villa injury and suspension hit for Irons

Villa will be without impressive Egyptian midfielder Trezeguet for the clash against he Irons on Monday after the player was red-carded after receiving a double yellow at Palace in the last game.

However, manager Dean Smith believes there’s a “burning desire” in his squad as he prepares for the arrival of the Hammers on Monday evening declaring: “I can sense it – they want to get this season back on track and take what we have deserved from games.”

However, he has other doubts with Jonathan Kodjia set to miss the game after the striker picked up a head injury in training.

Ivory Coast forward Kodjia has only played once this season due to an ankle injury and he’s now suffered another setback.

Matt Targett is also set to miss out against the Hammers with a hamstring strain. “Targett will probably be looking at the Arsenal game,” Smith added. “I think Monday will come too quickly for him.”

ClaretandHugh says: We’ve become used to managers voicing their injury doubts ahead of games but on this occasion, suspensions and injuries do really represent a boost for the Irons who should be at full strength. Smith’s achievement in taking the midlands outfit to promotion in his first season since taking over following his spell at Brentford has been very impressive but he will know that he needs to take something from a game against us if heads aren’t to start dropping. That makes life tougher for the Irons who will need to keep a tight hold on their main creative force, Jack Grealish in midfield. Dependent on how Palace (away to Spurs)  – with a plus one goal difference on seven points and Arsenal (away at Watford ) and Everton also on seven with a zero goal difference at Bournemouth there could be a lot to play for from the Hammers on Monday evening.
