Warrior Soucek

Warrior Soucek

There have been many who have dissed him but warrior Tomas Soucek proved a point last night. Many believed the club were wrong to offer him another four years at the club. But this Iron is indeed  a warrior as he demonstrated in the game against Poland last night when having his face half ruined when caught by a trailing boot from Southampton defender Jan Bednarek. It left him with his head bandaged and the match being stopped here and there afterwards as blood oozed from the wound. Did it stop him …did he choose to go off?? No that’s not his way! Indeed he scored the equaliser in a 1-1 draw which will all but see the Czech Republic through to the Finals of the Euro tournament.

At West Ham his form has improved dramatically since Declan Rice departed and he was returned to a more attacking midfield role for which he was bought in the first place. The goals are returning along with the smiles which typify the lad. Let’s face it. Beyond being a warrior and fighter he is a great human being and I reckon a real dressing room influence.

Us fans will always need a scapegoat or – twas ever thus but the time has come to give it a rest in the case of Soucek. The goals and form are returning and we should be pleased rather than being ready to knock whenever things go a little wrong. Well done for last night Tom – heroic stuff!
