West Ham loanee Kalvin Phillips is reportedly eager to return to Leeds United this summer following a challenging period that has seen him struggle for first-team football at both Manchester City and West Ham.
The England international is at a critical juncture in his career after a difficult loan stint at The London Stadium. He joined West Ham in January after failing to secure a regular spot in Pep Guardiola’s squad at Manchester City.
Phillips originally left his hometown club Leeds for Manchester City in July 2022 in a transfer valued at approximately £45 million. However, he has not been able to establish himself at the Etihad Stadium.
Since his move to the London Stadium in January, Phillips has made only eight Premier League appearances, starting just three games. His time at West Ham has been marked by error-prone performances and disciplinary issues, including a red card during a 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in February.
Further complicating his situation was an incident where he was seen gesturing offensively towards a West Ham fan who called him useless as he boarded the team bus.

Goes down as the worst loan signing in West Hams history. A player that wasn’t needed at the time, a player that wasn’t fit,a player that wasn’t interested, a player who cost us points every time he wore the shirt.

The signing of Philips has signed Moyes out of his position as our Gaffer. He has done wonders for our club. I’m from Stratford and have supported the Hammers for 57 years. Never in all that time have I seen west ham do better than they have over the last 3 seasons. I thank moyes for that. However, it’s time to move on with new boss. Challenge for top 4 position. Philips has no respect for the history or the supporters of wrst ham. And the amount of money he gets is ridiculous when much better players are paid a lot less. Players that love west ham and play for the badge on their chest.

Philipps was a great signing, just needed to get back to match fitness. Was handled poorly by west ham tactical mismanagement,was a bit unlucky with some initial touches, was very much in company with terrible errors which are just typically made by other WH players, was victim of a particularly bad refereeing decision and to put the lid on it, suffered abuse from some ignorant supposed WH fans.
Agree entirely I am a Leeds fan and was astonished when he went to city but that’s that, but have to say he has not had the best time at West ham, poorly managed, not given enough game time, so why take him there in the first place, bad decisions around by West ham, not Phillips.
Enough said. Entirely down to Moyes. We’re just lucky that Maruane Felani had retired otherwise we’d have had him alongside Phillips and Soucek in a more defensive midfield.
