“West Ham are currently favourites” | Summerville’s replacement named in Report

Six weeks and counting until the Championship season kicks off and it seems from the reports that West Ham’s summer reshape is finally gathering momentum.

Mateus Fernandes has departed and more than likely one other ‘top talent’ will be heading out of the door from London Stadium in the next few days.

Journalist Harry Watkinson writing in teamtalk.com makes it plain that the Hammers have a ‘succession plan’ for Crysencio Summerville who is looking increasingly likely to be Manchester United-bound.

“…As West Ham close in on Toffees star..”

McNeil – lined up as Summerville’s replacement?

West Ham are showing interest in the 26-year-old. The Hammers have identified [Dwight] McNeil as a potential replacement for Crysencio Summerville, who is a top target for Manchester United…Sources confirm that West Ham have made enquiries about a move for McNeil. No formal offer has been made yet, but Everton are open to selling the former Burnley man.”

Transfer dominoes this summer continue to align for West Ham’s recruitment strategy. Everton landing both Hayden Hackney (shame) and Tyrique George means:

“with George’s permanent signing now agreed it is highly likely that McNeil will leave Everton this summer, and West Ham are currently favourites to bring him in”

If the Summerville deal is close – as we are led to believe by the confirmation of a £40m release clause – then signing a replacement will be critical for Nuno’s Championship challenge. Whether he will fill the Dutchman’s boots is another matter which I’ll leave to those who may be more acquainted than I with McNeill’s style and record.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

If we replace Summerville with McNeil we are doing the same stupid mistanke of buying a left footed right inside forward to replace a riggt footed loft inside forward. We did the same with Kudus. And again with Guillerme (regardless of quality).

Why cant we just try to get a player that actually plays in the position we are looking for?

We should look at irakunda, the Aus and Watford winger and striker, he’s quick and strong as well

  • Jeeps says:

Termed as inverted winger (floating No 10), inconsistent, slow with good left foot.
Scored goals in the past but not this year and no assists.
Maybe ok as squad player (at £10-£12m) but not a replacement for Summerville.
Everton have brought in Hackney (whu target) and a n other which is why Everton are looking to move McNeil on.
Replacement needs to have explosive pace and goal scoring ability.
Better still make Summerville an offer he can’t refuse if if it’s only till January.
His skills could almost guarantee premiership next year providing he stays fit.

This sounds like old news being regurgitated. Our new DOF is barely in his seat and is unlikely to have rated McNeil from afar

  • PB61 says:

The calibre of players we are being linked with, is sadly hitting home just how real last seasons relegation was.

What a dreadful signing this would be, if this is the level of signing our new and shiny recruitment team are going to make I despair.
