West Ham will travel to Slovenia for the first leg on Thursday 28th July with the tie being switched to the modern 16,155-capacity Stozice Stadium in the capital city of Ljubljana – ten miles south west of the town Domzale.
However if Domzale are expecting thousands of West Ham fans to make the journey to fill up this 16,000 stadium they will be bitterly disappointed.
Return flights to Ljubljana next week cost between £350-£400 and the vast majority of flights from London need a stop and transfer via Poland, Switzerland, Germany or Austria.
Hotels in Ljubljana cost between £52-£88 per night and most fans would require two nights with challenging flight times. Add to that the cost of food, drink, tickets, taxis against the poor exchange rate of 1.17 Euro to the pound. Supporters would need at least two days off work at shirt notice just as the summer school holidays are starting.
It is not unreasonable to suggest the trip will cost a minimum of £600 per person all in which is the same as the cost of a band 3 Olympic Stadium season ticket for the season.
Last year West Ham sold out their 450 away ticket allocation for FC Lusitans in the Europa League, However Birkirkara FC sold just 376 away tickets from a large of allocation of 3,000 and just 345 supporters made the trip for Astra Giurgiu from an allocation of 500.
Although I see several hundred of die hard West Ham supporters will make the trip we won’t see an invading away army of thousands make the trip to Slovenia.
The chances are that the 16,000 stadium might look very empty when we play Domzale next Thursday.
I can’t see many fans getting tickets for the home tie let alone the away leg ?
Pandamonium at present , just got back from the stadium , absolute chaos getting my ticket , after an hour the ticket office ? Yes the ticket office have arranged for ticket master to send me it by post as they couldn’t print it off ! Que was getting bigger as people were having to come to the ground to purchase tickets ? Laugh ! I nearly ordered a drink but the WiFi wasn’t working ? Like everything else ?
Phone company and west ham must be raking it in ??
I booked my flight leaving Tuesday, just found out I wont receive my ticket until Tuesday what a shambles how am I meant to get my ticket before my 9am flight same as apparently season tickets wont arrive till week before home game, can see this being a complete disaster. how hard is it ???????????
