West Ham look set to battle it out with former manager David Moyes for the services of Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill.
The 29-year-old is out of contract at Turf Moor, and the Clarets are understood to be keen to tie their star man to a new deal. However, Burnley’s attempts to sign Jordan James from Rennes for £12 million as a potential replacement would suggest they’re not confident of succeeding.
Everton’s interest in Brownhill will come as no surprise to Hammers fans, considering former boss Moyes chased the midfielder when in charge at the London Stadium.

It therefore seems to be a straight shootout between West Ham and the Toffees for the player, who scored 18 goals in the Championship last season.
Quite where this leaves Graham Potter’s drive to reduce the average age of the Irons midfield is anyone’s guess. That said, it’s fair to say the lack of a transfer fee will certainly be tempting for the reportedly skint Hammers.
Brownhill-a former Manchester United academy player-is also understood to be wanted by Leeds United following their promotion to the Premier League but only as a back-up option.

If we are trying to sign young dynamic midfielders and hoping to bring through Potts, Earthy etc then this move only makes sense if we are confident of shifting alot of the existing midfield. Otherwise we are just using up wages on players that are not going to fundamentally change the dynamic of the team.
