West Ham break promise for full away allocations

|

West Ham have gone back on a supporter promise to take full away ticket allocations for every game.

The promise was made by Karren Brady at the now-defunct Supporters Advisory Board several years ago saying the club would take the full allocation even when it made a loss and that practise had continued following that meeting.

All football clubs are required to pay for away tickets upfront so they take the risk whether they sell out or not.

In the case of Leicester City away in late January, the club took an allocation of 2,220 from a maximum allocation of 3,305 that it had previously taken in previous seasons. The Leicester City away tickets sold out to season ticket holders with twelve or more priority points indicating there was still further demand.

West Ham’s upcoming Liverpool away game also has a reduced away allocation of 1,865 compared to a maximum 3,000 that the Hammers have taken in previous years. This fixture which will be played on Monday 24th February sold out to season ticket holders with eight ot more priority points again showing there was further demand.

Season ticket holders with lower priority points, Claret members and general supporters say they have been denied an opportunity to buy and support their team for these two games and that the club has gone back on a previous supporter promise without consultation.

A club insider told Claret and Hugh that both games had lower demand as they were weekday evening matches and would have been unlikely to sell out the full allocations.

Or could it be they want less people demonstrating at away games?
If tickets go to general sale they won’t want another 1000 black balloons!
    So scared of criticism.
Can never remember us not selling out at Anfield.
Surely they can be more organised, ask for applications( with credit card details) prior to having to make the call on how many we take.
    Too much effort probably.

Is anyone at all surprised? Think or the additional cost too of the ‘free’ coach travel! Got to run a business here folks and scr!w the fans. Pathetic and sums the whole place up!

please stop showing her picture she just makes my blood boil!

Yet another example of money first, supporters not even second.

You have to wonder (or perhaps not) at the timing of this. I make a long round trip from the north for home games and would have loved to have gone to this game. The idea that we wouldn’t sell out Liverpool seems unlikely.

Another promise broken and another decision where the motive would appear to be highly questionable. Their recent actions demonstrate that they’ve gone full on ‘bunker mentality’ rather than try and actually engage with the fans or change how the club is run. Sad to see.

Imagine KB as a “The Apprentice” contestant explaining to Lord Sugar why her team did not bother to take their allotted allocation because they might not have sold them all!
I don’t think his finger will be pointing at her and offering a big bonus!
    The absolute hypocrisy.

It’s very easy to create a hate figure amongst fans and right now, even though it’s the owners who would have to sign off these decisions, this website seems to be targeting Karen Brady as the figurehead for much of what is wrong with our club.

I don’t think it’s right to mirror rags like The Daily Hate, sorry, Mail, in focusing on one person and using demonising photos of them to, even subliminally, encourage hate and furore. There are too many people who overreact to such stories or images which leads to an individual being vilified. Like or loathe Karen Brady, she’s also done a lot of good for the club and always highlighting her deficiencies leads to her becoming a hate figure. As a club are we not better than that?

    • Not creating a hate figure at all – reporting facts and as such it reflects on all

      • Saul says:

I haven’t seen one post supporting the positive work she has done but many inclusions within posts of what a burden on the club she is, eg, how much money she earns, her Sun column, her political stance. You have a large reach and we all know that there are supporters out there who don’t need much of an excuse to act in a nefarious manor. It’s the players on the pitch and the manager who mainly dictate our results. If there is ire it should be aimed at them

xxxxxxxxxxxx – the difference between the Daily Mail and this example is that the Daily Mail targets the powerless, immigrants, ethnic minorities etc. Karren Brady’s one of the most powerful figures at West Ham, and she deserves every piece of criticism she gets – same with the other 2 xxxxxxx

    • Hammersone says:

Saul, karren brady has done that herself! Nothing to do with claret and hugh!

    • Maca5631 says:

“she’s also done a lot of good for the club”

      Like what?

  • John says:

So people like me that can’t get away tickets due to a low number of points, not even in double digits despite not missing more than five league and cup games as a season ticket for over a decade, lose out because of their unwillingness to make away games available properly? This is the highest level of ignorance, in every sense of the word!!

  • Hammersone says:

I think the real reason is because there is going to be a protest against the board when the teams come out at Anfield. So my guess is they are trying to limit the number.

    • George says:

If that were true, how sad – At the very time the club needs its 12th man and is proudly known for it’s fantastic travelling support, regardless of the result.

      • James Gunn says:

Awful what they’ve done to this club – the fanbase won’t start to go back to normal until they leave, however long that is

  • Hammerkip says:

    Cant even look at her
