Scott Parker is expected to sign a two-and-a-half-year contract with West Ham United this afternoon, with Claret & Hugh receiving fresh information about the proposed deal and the compensation package for departing manager Nuno Espírito Santo.
A club insider briefed C&H within the last few moments, revealing that Parker’s agreement includes break clauses linked directly to whether West Ham secure promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt. We have also been informed that Nuno is set to receive just under £3million in compensation following his dismissal this morning.
The details represent a significant development following our earlier exclusive identifying Parker as the leading candidate to replace the Portuguese coach. The former Hammers midfielder now appears close to completing his return to the London Stadium, although the appointment has yet to be officially announced.
West Ham Insider Reveals Parker Contract Terms
According to our source, Parker has been more than happy to accept the proposed terms, with a genuine desire within the club to see him succeed.
Speaking to Claret & Hugh within the last few moments, the insider explained:
“Parker will need to get West Ham up this season. If he doesn’t, he’ll be released without compensation. If he gets promoted to the Premier League, it will activate a two-year deal.”
In effect, Parker’s longer-term future at West Ham will depend upon achieving promotion this season.
Failure to return to the Premier League would allow the club to part company with the manager without paying compensation, according to the information we have received.
Promotion, however, would activate the remaining two years of his contract.
Parker Guaranteed Premier League Opportunity
Claret & Hugh have also been informed that Parker will be given the opportunity to manage West Ham in the Premier League should he secure promotion.
That assurance is particularly interesting given his dismissal by Burnley last season, despite having previously guided the Clarets into the top flight.
Parker’s experience of winning promotion with Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley appears to have been a significant factor in West Ham’s interest.
The Hammers hierarchy are evidently prioritising a manager with a proven Championship promotion record, while protecting the club financially should their objectives not be achieved.
Meanwhile, Nuno’s departure, confirmed earlier this morning, is expected to cost West Ham just short of £3million in compensation.
The proposed agreement with Parker would therefore represent a very different financial arrangement, with the club’s promotion ambitions written directly into the terms of his employment.
An official announcement confirming Parker’s appointment is still awaited.

Would get behind Parker if he is appointed, but will be on my knees in the hope he will say no.
Could have got rid of him for free at the end of the season and we might not be in the s***t we are in now. 3 million would have bought us a centre half that couldn’t be any worse than what we have.
Nuno had to go he was so negative , we have a great squad capable of attacking , scoring and winning more games. I don’t think to many players in the squad will be disappointed. Nuno could not get them playing together with team spirit , supporting each other , playing as a team fighting for a win and never give up attitude . The players need to take some responsibility for underperforming. Parker is one of us so players and manager fighting together no arguments or negative behaviour.more attacking and better defending. . Let’s go lads and win this league . COYI ⚒
After the joy of learning Nuno has gone, now the despair of learning Parker is incoming. What’s the point of appointing someone who might get us up and then activates a 2 year clause to keep him there when he is a proven failure in the Premier League. What happens in January when we are looking likely to go down. It’s absolute madness from our board. It’s not even if Parker’s sides play good football.
In these days of data driven player recruitment it’s about time the same principles were applied to signing managers.
This is great news all round and suggests the club are doing things in the right way. Quickly, concisely and with a structured, coherent plan. Welcome back, Scott. COYI
Fair play to the board, that is very well played. If he fails, get rid for free, if he succeeds, gives him a chance and it’s a small pay off he ultimately doesn’t keep us up. Can’t really argue with that.
So we’ll be looking for another manager this time next year then!
For me 100% wrong choice when Paco is a free agent and bellamy wants the job
Not that you’ll post my comment, as you rarely do………but how extremely uninspiring if true.
Hope he proves me wrong.
More slow football Our club owners have no idea or links with what our club needs Easy appointment No vision No future no idea what the fans are crying out for We need exciting football from our club Something when going to the game to look forward to oppertunity knocked and weve missed it I personally wont be going to any more games this season Cant take the boredom anymore
Parker is likely to get us up what with his record of doing just that, we’re not very far adrift so he has a good chance. That’s an essential really so I understand the decision to appoint him.
It’s after that which is the concern.
A different game plan is likely tomorrow night is more likely to be help than hindrance, I’m thinking we’ll be likely to win now.
Parker has a good record of getting clubs promoted, so I understand the move from that perspective but to give him 2.5 years when his record in the PL is truly awful is negligent imo. He should be an appointment to the end of the season to give them time to identify a more progressive manager for the longer term. The Board learns nothing from it’s mistakes and will make another with this appointment to beyond the end of the season.
