West Ham Exclusive: Scott Parker Emerges As Leading Candidate

Claret & Hugh can reveal this morning that West Ham United have already held discussions with a number of potential replacements for Nuno Espírito Santo, who was dismissed with immediate effect earlier today.

Some of those meetings took place as recently as yesterday, although the club have been describing the discussions as a sounding-out process rather than formal interviews.

Nevertheless, it appears the decision to part company with Nuno was effectively made following Saturday’s 3-1 defeat against West Bromwich Albion, with the Hammers hierarchy already exploring their options before this morning’s announcement.

A West Ham insider told Claret & Hugh this morning:

“There are a few candidates, at this moment Scott Parker is the most likely but it needs to be rubber stamped.”

Scott Parker Emerges As Leading Candidate

Former West Ham midfielder Scott Parker has enjoyed something of a chequered managerial career, but his record of winning promotion to the Premier League is likely to appeal to those making the decision.

Parker has previously guided Burnley, Fulham and Bournemouth into the top flight, giving him valuable experience of precisely the challenge West Ham now face.

That promotion record could prove particularly attractive to Daniel Křetínský and the club’s other decision-makers, with an immediate Premier League return remaining the priority.

However, our source has stressed that nothing has been finalised and other candidates remain under consideration.

Mark Noble, Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville will take temporary charge of preparations for tomorrow night’s Championship fixture away at Cardiff City.

The appointment process is understood to be a collective one, involving shareholders, recruitment chief Nils Koppen and chief executive Karim Virani.

With discussions already underway, West Ham are clearly wasting little time in searching for Nuno’s successor.

I like Parker he has a great record of getting teams up and therefore I can understand the appointment but once we are back in the Premier league is he good enough to take us forward? When Nuno was looking good a few games ago and we were scoring plenty of goals I thought yes he will take us back up but again with Nuno I thought once up he will take us straight back down. So good luck Scotty

Is this the same source that told you that Nuno had 2 too 3 games to save he’s job. I think your source is talking nonsense and hasn’t got a clue what they are talking about.

Serge Scotty not a great appointment. Out of the frying pan, into the fire.

  • Darkhorse says:

We need an attack minded manager

  • Andrew M says:

Scott Parker would be indeed underwhelming. May have a track record of getting promoted but equally has a track record of immediate relegation the next season. Hopefully they’ll go for Kieran McKenna and hopefully he’ll want it.

    Eddie Howe please

Hmmm, yes. The problem with SP is that he doesn’t have a clue how to stay in the Prem.
    (1-0 here we come? )

  • Harry says:

Blimey lose two games, the fans turn and you’re gone. Didn’t see that coming. Wouldn’t be surprised if Mark Noble and Steve Potts have some hand in this. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Nobles old teammate Scotty Parker taking over in due course.

  • Chris W says:

Oh no not Scottie, he’s more stick in the mud than Nuno !
