West Ham are closing in on the appointment of Steve Nickson as the club’s new Director of Football according to football ITK ExWHUEmployee.
Nickson has left Newcastle United and has been strongly linked with a move to East London over the past 48 hours.
West Ham are known to want a Director of Football to oversee the club’s rebuild as we attempt to secure promotion at the first time of asking.
A Strong Reputation At Newcastle
Nickson has a decent résumé and, by all accounts, is held in high regard by Magpies supporters, who credit the talent spotter with many of Newcastle’s better signings.
The 61-year-old has spent over a decade at St James’ Park and built a reputation for identifying talent and value in the transfer market.
Whether he ultimately gets the job remains to be seen, but there certainly appears to be plenty of momentum behind the reports.
The Amanda Staveley Connection
Perhaps more interesting are the links to Amanda Staveley, who Nickson worked under during her time as head honcho at Newcastle.
The added twist here is that Staveley herself has recently been linked with West Ham.
The former Newcastle co-owner is rumoured to be a potential investor alongside Daniel Kretinsky and was reportedly spotted at the London Stadium on Monday by some eagle-eyed staff members.
That may prove to be nothing more than coincidence or just someone who needs to go to Specsavers.
But given the timing of the Nickson reports and Staveley’s reappearance in West Ham circles, it’s certainly enough to get people talking.
Question..Why did Stavely leave Newcastle?
