Last night Crystal Palace were described as being in the process of formulating a bid for West Ham’s talismanic Skipper Jarrod Bowen – with ‘The Sun” claiming £50 million was the figure being planned, to tempt a cash strapped West Ham to part with their Captain and simultaneously offer Bowen an escape route out of the mire of Championship football.
After such a moderate beginning to life in the second tier, few could blame Bowen for reconsidering his options just two months after Kretinsky’s brave new world offered him – and us – the reassurance that West Ham were sound, solid, solvent and Sullivan-free. How distant those days of hope seem now: For us and, no doubt, for Bowen himself.

Claret and Hugh approached a highly placed source inside West Ham United, seeking reassurance that whatever the player’s approach, the club had not reneged on their stance. The simple, uncompromising response came back last night:
“Jarrod Bowen is not for sale”
Which will be a crumb of comfort for supporters.
However it is unlikely to signal an end to the speculation entirely until the transfer window closes and puts an end to the rumour mill for another four months : West Ham urgently need to do business before 3rd September but it sounds as if they are fully committed to ensuring that Jarrod Bowen, at least, stays put.

I have a very reliable source that says Palace are upping the offer to £75m and will do the deal before the end of transfer deadline. West Ham are going to sell him, but they will reject the first offer. Bowen has always been an Eagle at heart, he even has a small Crystal Palace tattoo on his wrist that he kisses after every goal. His son’s middle name is Eagle and he named his daughter Crystal. It’s just a matter of time before Bowen goes to his true home.
Whatever you say about Bowen. He is by nature an attacking player, who from what I have seen so far, looks dispirited, disinterested, and thoroughly sick of defending in his own half. I don’t know what, if any, promises were made to him. But I wouldn’t mind betting, that he is reconsidering, and bitterly regretting his decision to stay.. And unless there is a new manager recruited ASAP. I can see him going sooner than later. And I can’t say that I blame him.

The window closes on the 1st September not the 3rd, so we have just one week ahd it is not looking promising.
As a Palace fan, I really hope we don’t follow through on this story. Granted, Bowen is a very good player, but £50m is a ludicrously high price for him. Smacks of our idiot Director of Football who has replaced the brilliant Dougie Freeman of desperately overpaying yet again for a player as was done with both Johnson and Strand-Larsen last season.

He isn’t worth 50 million let alone 50 p , he’s definitely not a captain, not a leader, doesn’t inspire the squad let alone those on the pitch , last couple of seasons how many times has he actually gone past a player with the ball , his crosses into the box are terrible, his corner kicks against pompey laughable, he’s lost his pace , he’s overrated, definitely not a billy bonds , Di canto , even a lampard , dicksy who all inspired, lead the team
I think some of what you say is fair but you are being harsh and your 50p comment is moronic.
It is clear that the captaincy has weighed heavily on Bowen who is a committed player and impacted his performance given he is exceptionally good at his best.
I agree that he probably should not be captain – not because he isn’t fit to be – but because he is a leader by example and that isn’t enough in a team devoid of leadership qualities. We need more vocal commander in the middle of the pitch – ideally at CB or CM
Moyes wanted to bring in Maguire a few seasons ago – that would have solved both CB and captaincy problems.
But this is not to be laid all at Bowen’s door and I think you should reconsider your comment.

Ummm. Given the loss of pace these last few months, and if it was guaranteed that the whole fee would be reinvested in the squad, ( a CB and a Lacey attacker), I’d give it due consideration. Problem being Kretinsky will use it to pay off more debt and not on player reinvestment so keep Bowen and hope his firm returns soon.

I thought ridiculous articles on Bowen leaving had stopped. He is West Ham through and through and will not be going anywhere.
