Eagle-eyed West Ham supporters spotted the old Hammers badge on display to millions of TV viewers on Saturday evening at the King Power Stadium as the Irons took on Leicester.
The image of the old Hammers crest appeared on a medical kit bag close to the West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini in the dug out.
The old Hammers crest was redesigned and updated by London design agency Springett Associates in the late 1990’s, featuring a wider yellow castle with fewer cruciform “windows” along with the peaked roofs being removed the tops of the towers.
The designer also altered the shape of the hammer heads, border and other small changes in order to give a more substantial feel to the iconography.
The crest popular with supporters was retired in 2016 for the move the London Stadium in Stratford with the removal of the castle and additional of the word ‘London’ on the badge.

I was at the game and it was used by Leicester City in the away end on the wall as some clubs do when welcoming awa y fans. I still can’t understand who really voted for that to be chnaged to the present one. Hopefully London will be removed, but even so the old one was better. Unfortunately it was the work of now departed Angus kinnear when he was headhunted from Arsenal to oversee the move. Let’s be honest it was just about the word London. I sometimes wish our fans would stand up more to these sort of changes, just like Leeds did recently when the same Angus kinnear tried to. chnage there badge and failed due to a petition!
