West Ham approach the last three days of the transfer window with big gaps in their squad and indecision – even at this late stage – over who to bring in before Tuesday night’s deadline.
Without it being considered a ‘power struggle’, (to use media mega-drama click bait language) there’s evidently conflicting opinions at work between the coaching staff and the recruitment team.
Exactly the sort of issue that arises with a coach and technical director trying to work out recruitment between them.
At this time Hammers fans would surely settle for anyone likley to assist the depth of the squad on which Nuno can call during the next four months, yet there’s indecision over the signing of another winger to bolster the Irons’ wide resources.
Several names have been mentioned including the Norwegian Edvin Austbø (main image) Brighton’s Amario Cozier-Duberry, former Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson and Daniel Job amongst those mentioned.

We turned to our transfer source, close to several players within West Ham’s squad, for a sense of where the Hammers are likely to turn, and found what is causing inertia over bringing any one of the above to the club before Tuesdays deadline:

Difficult not to feel frustrated that amongst West Ham;s decision makers there is still no clear direction over which way to go ahead of deadline day. Having sold Summerville the Hammers have only Manor Solomon on the left and Jarrod Bowen on the right with cover for neither. The warning lights are clearly flashing bright yet, as of last week there’s still no decision to push ahead.
Frankly, at this stage, any of the above would be an improvement on the options available for this weekend’s trip to Watford: With fixtures coming thick and fast, as everywhere in the squad without sufficient player cover, (centre back for example), we’re just one calf strain away from disaster.
Everyone else has said what I think. Why are we paying a DOF if Nuno has the say who comes? Get Nuno out – he is the main problem.

Nuno wanted Adama, that hasn’t worked well, Nuno is just not imho very good at picking players, McCauley bought well in hindsight, no idea why he was exited…
We have a leadership that shoots itself in the foot, man up to Nuno and get a recruiter in that can do deals, look at Nuno in the transfer market and Moyes and you see the same dithering approach.
Now that Nelson is a free agent, he doesn’t need to be signed before deadline day. So no rush with him. Same applies to Vardy.
It is the difference between thinking ahead and about the club and the manager’s here and now. He is obviously going for experience. If he were Greenwood or Shankly and been at the club 3 seasons at LEAST, then fine, but otherwise you do not get to waltz in & decide decide outright. You earn that right. I don’t for one, trust his judgement nor has shown himself to be an adept manager.
Bowen could leave next season, so you need someone who can replace him and that is not Nelson – done. Sometimes have to compromise with manager, other times club steps in and makes a choice.
NES is far from being able to guarantee promotion because to date he has completely failed in that. If lose against Watford apparently he is under extreme pressure and he is saying no to Edvin Austbø?
The youngsters at Soton saved his neck and I bet that he was as shocked as everyone else, because they played freely, yet controlled the game more and more.
That was because of their academy coaching and Mukasa from City – not NES coaching. I bet his selection of the youngsters was a roll of the dice. He definitely is not the best judge.
We would’ve been better just holding on to some of the players that took us down and they have to suck it up for a year (hopefully only a year).
We’ve sold all our assests and are going to replace them with yet more dross or old veteren players with zero future value if we get promoted. We are in a dark place and we are run by absolute clowns 🤡.
