West Ham youngster joins Charlton

West Ham Academy youngster Jay Mingi has joined Charlton Athletic.

Midfielder Mingi joined the Hammers at the age of seven, developing his versatile skill set as he moved through the Academy of Football.

He was a regular in the U16s during the 2016/17 season, impressing sufficiently to be handed an U18 Premier League debut as a substitute in a 2-0 win over Southampton at Little Heath on 7 January 2017. A first start at that level came at Arsenal on 18 February of the same year. The youngster was awarded a two-year full-time scholarship at the start of the 2017/18 season – a campaign that saw him feature 16 times as a starter in the U18 Premier League.

The 18-year-old whose contract expires in June this year has not featured for the Academy since November and recently went on trial to Charlton.   Mingi will one of a number of young prospects to be released this summer to make way for others.
