West Ham midfielder Edson Álvarez has become the centre of swirling social‑media speculation yesterday, with claims that an unnamed club has tabled a bid for the Mexican international.
However, one of our trusted sources poured cold water on the ‘frenzy’ claim last night, confirming that while “there have been a few, no one has offered the right money,” the situation remains far from a genuine negotiation.

Nuno Espírito Santo is understood to be reluctant to sanction any exit, viewing Álvarez as a core part of his midfield structure heading into the new campaign.
As a result, West Ham have placed a £20m–£22m valuation on the 26‑year‑old, a figure that has so far deterred potential suitors and underlined the club’s stance.
Alvarez featured prominently in last week’s Carabao Cup victory over Portsmouth, playing valuable minutes as he continues building sharpness ahead of our Championship opener. Strange one really last season could’nt give him away and then the world cup and suddenly we now want to keep him and other clubs are interested. I feel its maybe a little bit of a game we are playing ie if someone does want him and are going to offer 22 million we will sell personally i think he will be ok in the championship but will get plenty of yellow and maybe 1 or 2 reds Portsmouth last week he could have been sent off easily

Captain? Why? He’s an ill tempered player who is so slow he has to lunge for the ball and give away fouls and pick up cautions and red cards.
Roy Keane picked up cards, and captained Utd. But he drove the team on to ultimate success. Made sure each player was giving their all. Lead by example. Can you see Alvarez doing that? Not a chance. As someone else has said: he is a liability. Captain? You’re having a laugh.
i can’t count the many times a “problem player” has been made captain and then had one of their best seasons. Roy Keane was less c**tish…so was i when it was forced on me. seriously, i was a pest sometimes and i had a responsibility that i thought was important. i played with a much cooler head. and the refs hated me less!!! this us why i thought Alvarez should have been captain when he first showed up. the captaincy makes you “pull your head in” (as we say in Oz) and the respect for the shirt and club is stronger. i love Bowen but he’s no captain 🤷🏻♂️

He is however a top drawer player with a wealth of experience. Why Nuno has not made him captain I do not understand. We all love Bowen but he is not captain material . Also why put a value of 20m valuation on him. That is a come and buy him valuation. Club still run by idiots
102 international games for Mexico, captain for a lot of them, this guy is top class. West Ham would be idiots to let him go.
Get rid hes a liabilty that we dont need. his attitude leaves a hell of alot to complain about we need all our players to give a 110per cent he wont do that meaning the others have to carry him given the amount of games in the championship and how tough it is we cant afford a player like him it would end up costing us
I always thought West Ham’s fascination on putting values on player under the transfer spotlight was a Sully tactic, but guess I was wrong. We seem to do this on players we want gone and also those we want to keep. If any other club doesn’t want to sell a,player they just state ‘Not for Sale’ or put up a ridiculous valuation like £150m
(Like Coventry did in January). I guess the club seems unable to shake off the ‘selling club’ mentality

Given physical aspect amount of games and no VAR player strength in championship is a good asset.
Disasi, Alvarez, Mavro, Soucek(?), Traore add physical bulk/height both on field and in 6 yd box.
If the little sod can grow up – as I expect he will over the coming years given his current age of 26 – he will be worth far more the 20-22 currently suggested. I’d say keep him whether he likes it or not with a view to getting our money’s worth further down the line.
He’s from humble beginnings, he’ll put in just enough required work for his superior quality to shine in the Championship. Who knows, he may finally become a more settled man and come to respect the nitty gritty of this competition in the Championship and feel it’s akin to his home.
