Winston Reid admits terrible game

|

Winston-Reid-714445Winston Reid has admitted Saturday’s game against Newcastle was terrible but says the team need to go to Bournemouth to pick up points to make things right again.

“It was terrible, from our point of view, conceding three goals, giving goals away, and they could have had another two in the first half,” said  Winston Reid speaking to WHUFC.com

We didn’t do the things that we’d been doing the last couple of weeks and we didn’t take our chances as well, the chances that we had, so it wasn’t good at one end and it wasn’t fantastic at the other.

“Fortunately enough, we have another game on Tuesday, so we’ll go again then. The games are coming thick and fast now and we need to go to Bournemouth and make sure we pick up some points.”

“I thought we started well with the goal, but we let ourselves down by not capitalising on that. Newcastle were there for the taking at 1-0 down and we didn’t take advantage.

“We moved the ball too slowly and we got caught out. We put ourselves in bad positions by giving the ball to one another in the wrong positions and if you do that to a team in the Premier League, you’re going to get punished. I think that was the most disappointing thing

Most fans said before kick off this was the wrong starting 11.Should have stuck with Collins and Rice from the Stoke match and criminal to have 3 recognised strikers on the bench.Antonio out of sorts,Ayew on the fringes again. If he has done his homework there should be 3 or 4 changes for the Bournmouth game and back to playing on the break which suits us best.

Agree 64 Collins should of started. And Antonio has been last min decision last 3 games bc hasn’t been fkt & have strikers on the bench.

But what drives me mad is Ginge has said he wants to end his career here left Wales to focus on club. He is a solid CB leader & makes 30k small wages wants a deal he can’t get a year but Reid gets a 5 year deal.
If they sell Ginge for £2m in Jan to Everton I’ll be fuming.
He deserves a year & a testimonal he doesn’t have the pace he once did but is still pulled us out the mire many times.
So I hope the give Ginge an extension bc we need him & I like Reid but I think he is overrated at times.not world class like some say decent CB.
But Ginge 5 years ago w pace was great & he is great in a back 3.

Reid should do us all a favour and drop himself if he is put right side, he is not upto anything other than left sided CB and never has been, just because he is a big character shouldn’t mean a place in the team, on ability and form there are better choices i.e. Collins and Rice, Ogbonna is playing well. Put Collins at right sided CB and Rice as CDM then see how things go as to whether Obiang starts or not. Against Bournemouth they are poor offensively just deny them space and counter on them will be an easy win if we do that 3 – 5 nil if we come out they have good enough passers to exploit us and in Defoe a finisher that can punish a player out of position or off balance. Get bodies behind the ball, respect the point and we will probably take all 3 disrespect the point and we will likely get embarassed again.

Thank goodness that Reid was able to identify the reasons for our poor display.
Inept, slow passing from a group of very tired players.

Agree earlier views. Antonio needs to get himself fully fit before we consider him again. We need to establish with him if it is purely fitness or something more serious because he is nowhere near his best and something is holding him back. Starting Ayew ahead of Chic was wrong. And three CB’s should be Obanna, Rice and Collins on current form. But Moyes is no mug and he will make changes. Bournemouth have big injury issues up top so we are catching them at the right time. Just got to go out there, get a win and create that four point gap between us and the bottom three. Can’t see Swansea or W .Brom picking up any points so it’s a great opportunity to put the pressure on others. But lose, and we are deservedly back in the shyte.
