‘Wrexham blueprint’ offers Nuno a clear pathway back to winning ways | West Ham News

Sometimes the acronym “KISS” (keep it simple, stupid) applies to football methodology as much as to its original business roots. In short, find something that works and keep on doing it. End of.

As well West Ham could remember after Nuno’s squad tinkering last Friday produced a tepid performance and a soft penalty putting the Hammers behind.

I’m not sure what West Ham’s manager had seen in training that made the compelling case for bringing Tomas Soucek straight back into the line up at the expense of his Mukasa – Engels combo which had seemed to be working well. Never mind. Learn from the lesson and move on.

Against Lincoln City in three days time, surely there’s a case for reverting to the eleven who demolished Wrexham last month. Why overcomplicate?

Instead of paying tippy-tippy going-nowhere football, just pick the eleven who started that night and took the game to their opponents, effectively finishing the contest just after half time – by which point the Irons went three goals up. The eleven that outgunned and demolished their opponents just a few weeks ago are all fit and raring to go should Nuno keep his squad selection simple against Lincoln in three days time.

West Ham’s eleven who started against Wrexham were:

Hermansen, Veltman, Mavropanos, Kilman, Morato | Engels, Mukasa | Bowen, Solomon, Taty, Piroe.

As with all team sports, the best team is the selection which your opponent would least like to see. Which means reverting to the Wrexham blueprint and sending out his team to dominate, instead of being asked to sit back and wind down the clock, as the Hammers seemed hell-bent on doing in their incomprehensible first half strategy against QPR.

Just take the handbrake off, Nuno, and let the team do what they’re best at. Outscoring opponents.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

I think the Wrexham game gave us a false sense of security. It was a one off and probably won’t happen again too soon. Wrexham came to the London stadium to play, but the majority of teams we play home and away will shut up shop like QPR. When that happens we don’t seem to have a clue

Disagree, Wrexham are a slow, less athletic team than many in the division and gave us time and space we dont usually get. And scoring 6 has skewed expectations a tad imo. Playing 2 in central midfield without a CDM, especially in away fixtures, is a problem. Nuno needs to give Magassa some game time but he wont. He will persist with Soucek and others like Taty who is anonymous and it will continue to cost us.

    Quite agree
Need to attack from the word go
Yes the team that played against Wrexham must start
We can not afford to be chasing the game, loosing 6 points now is no where good enough.
Nuno I am giving you the benefit of the doubt that you will select a attacking team
There are a lot of good clubs in the championship this year and we must pick up points, not lose games we should win
