Yakubu starts for the Hammers

YakPep Yakubu started for the Hammers Under 19’s on Tuesday night as they faced AFC Hornchurch in a friendly. He is said to be the son of famous Nigerian footballer Yakubu affectively known as ‘the Yak’. Now thirty four of age his father played for Portsmouth, Everton, Middlesborough, Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers. In more recent years he has turned out for Reading and Coventry for who he recently cancelled his contract by mutual consent at the end of last season.

Yakubu senior was recently spotted at Little Heath watching his son Pep play for the West Ham Academy under Steve Potts. Let’s the saying ‘Feed the Yak and he will score’ can be passed down to his son.

Jaanai Gordon was the only other recognisable name on the team sheet. The Hammers shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw.
