Hammer Andriy Yarmolenko scored twice as Ukraine hammered Cyprus 4-0 in a UEFA Euro 2020 warm-up international in Kharkiv.
The West Ham player took his personal goal tally to 40 for his country with a brace at the Metalist Stadium, opening the scoring with a penalty eight minutes before half-time after Oleksandr Zubkov was felled by Antreas Panayiotou. Manchester City’s Alex Zinchenko doubled his country’s lead from the penalty spot in first half stoppage time before Roman Yaremchuk tapped in a third on the hour-mark. Yarmolenko made it 4-0 with his second goal of the game midway through the second half, this time a deflected strike, as Ukraine continued their preparations for the European Championship finals. which kick off on Friday
Ukraine now head to Amsterdam to face Netherlands in their Group C opener on Sunday 13 June, before taking on North Macedonia and Austria in Budapest, Hungary, on Thursday 17 June and Monday 21 June respectively.
Let’s hope his form is superb at the euros and it adds a few million to his price tag . ⚒
It would help if he kept fit enough to play for us. Don’t let’s go overboard here. One was a penalty and the other a deflection.
What I don’t understand is how we can’t get Yarmolenko to score, surely with his goal tally Moyes can make the system work for this guy who is a great finisher.
He can’t score from the bench. Perhaps he should have been coming on for Antonio instead of moving Bowen to the middle?
Do we build a side around making Yarmolenko look good? Probably not the way forward. IMO. COYI
