Proof positive  again that West Ham United are planning for the future, very much active behind the scenes and signing one of their young trailists from last season.

TheAcademy of Football has announced 18 year old lifelong West Ham striker Jett Murphy has signed a two year deal to join the u21’s after impressing with goals against Norwich City whilst on trial with the u18’s.

Murphy’s new contract will run from 1 July as he becomes the first recruit into the academy in what is likely to be a busy summer: The youngster has been a lifelong West Ham fan and harbours ambition to follow the likes of Callum Marshall and Ollie Scarles by making the transition from academy to full senior squad:

“I’m over the moon to have signed for the Club,” he said. “It’s been a lifetime dream of mine and my family’s too, as we’re all West Ham fans. I’ve supported the Club since I was born, so it feels like a full-circle moment. It’s unbelievable and I still can’t get over the fact it’s happened”

Academy Director Kenny Brown reveals the extent of the work that has gone on in the background inside West Ham’s recruitment department, despite having no head of department following the departure of Maximilian Hahn at the end of last season:

“We’re delighted to have Jett here,” he said. “He made a really strong impression on our recruitment department, who brought in plenty of details and reports around him.

“All of the early signs are really positive and he’s been brilliant on and off the pitch. He’s scored goals everywhere he’s played”

We hope to see Murphy scoring for the u21’s next season and progressing through to senior football during his two year deal.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

He will have to get in line. We already have three excellent prospects in Landers, Ajala and Cummings, although I hope a couple will feature in first team this season.

Don’t know anything about this lad, but in Kenny we trust, also he’s bigger than im

Needs to have a bit more ambition than Callum Marshall.
