Zaba accuses Hammers squad of mental weakness

|

Thank God for some honesty from (for me anyway) top man Pablo Zabaleta.

The veteran defender doesn’t believe in meaningless cliche-ridden interviews and always has something important to say when asked for opinions.

The guy’s been a winner throughout his career and in his latest interview he makes the point most of us know to be true – the Hammers squad at large is “mentally weak.”

Realistically it’s the only conclusion that can be drawn because whenever the team has had the chance of moving into seventh this season it has failed on each occasion..

And to dismiss really poor results and performances such as being “a bad day at the office” and “something we must put right on the training pitch” avoids the real issue and is unhelpful as a result.

Zaba is to be applauded for cutting through the nonsense and platitudes we are invariably handed by players on such occasions.

He said – as reported by the London Evening Standard: “I am not happy at all because if you look at the season so far, we have not been consistent enough. We have had three or four bad performances against teams around us.

“There are five teams looking for that seventh position and it is all about one or two points difference between them.

“We have lost so many opportunities to be in that seventh place and it shows the weak mentality that we have probably got and which we need to improve looking forward”.

    Agree with that.

  • Clive says:

Perhaps this mental weakness is the reason Zaba is continually caught out of position leaving the right back spot totally exposed to the opposition winger?

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

100% we need to look for players that have the attitude of him and Rice not flakes like Arnie that are good when things are going well but fall apart when put under pressure. We have a nucleus of good players, Fab, Zaba,Balbuena, Diop, Lanzini, Nasri, Rice, Anderson, Yarmolenko, Arnie if he sorts his head out and Hernandez apart from that we have decent subs in Oggy, Cresswell, Noble, Snodgrass, Fredericks and Antonio, Wilshere if he gets fit but if rumours are to be believed we will be losing Reid, Carroll, Fernandes,Oxford, Cullen, Obiang, Adrian, Perez, Hugill, maybe also Arnie, Hernandez and Antonio so that’s going to have to be a helluva busy summer if there is only £25m in the pot 😄

It’s hard to make a case against Zab’s assessment.

  • Hammers in the blood 1 says:

How can you disagree with Zab , the attitude is wrong I expect more from the players . I think we will be lucky to Finnish 11th if they don’t sort it out . 7th should be ours but the minds are not focused and not enough effort . Blimey we shouldn’t be on the beach until the final whistle of the season , sort it . COYI ⚒
