Bilic called players to ask where he went wrong

|

goodbyeSlaven Bilic personally telephoned West Ham stars after he got the sack to ask them where he had gone wrong claims the Daily Mirror today.

The report suggests players didn’t hold back and he was told he had not been tough enough on his squad. A key issue is said to have been the 49-year-old former West Ham manager allowed poor time-keeping to go unpunished.

When players reported late for training sessions, Bilic failed to make an issue of it and, at times, even allowed them escape clearly justified club fines. Some squad members were also known to report onto the training pitch after a session had begun, again without official sanction.

Players’ concerns about the quality and intensity of his training also emerged in the final weeks of Bilic’s reign. Many West Ham stars liked Bilic the man, and were prepared to help him in his debrief reviewing his two-and-a-half year reign.

    Ah yes!
But what did Andy Carroll say Sean?

    • blimeylimey says:

Andy Carroll wanted to know whats stuck to his back…….

Plus he blamed the supporters for leaving to early as there still was a chance of getting back !!! Then he passed the bong over lol 😂

So the reason for our bad form and lack of commitment was down to complacency from the Manager and right on down through the squad . Seems like a tougher approach was sorely needed . Hopefully Moyes will provide that .

  • Hammer64 says:

But I don’t think the buck stops there Kevin. The owners might not have known a lax approach was going to be allowed when they appointed him. They should have known what was going on by last season & acted then. For the first time today I saw stuff in the press about poor leadership from the very top being a major cause. And of course that may not change with a new manager. Moyes will not be in a strong position to demand changes there either. Some of us have been saying for ages that there are a lot of things within the club that need reviewing. I am trying to stay positive but I think Moyes is up against it. I noticed Gold also seemed to be dampening hopes of spending in Jan, although he did suggest a few signings- which ought to be enough,

    Er!
Perhaps he should have asked the question BEFORE he was “relieved of his duties”!?
Lack of effort, in any environment, is frequently down to jealousy/inequality of some kind.
Eventually, even those with the highest integrity will give up.
It was supposed to be a management “team”.
What was the role/value of the other 3 in the team?
The malaise was there for everyone to see and grew over a period of many months.
It did not suddenly arrive, as does a cold.
The owners are on a hiding to nothing and cannot win.
Fans see what other clubs have without the seeming recognition that West Ham owners are just poor old millionaires.
Of course, owners will make bad decisions, not only of selection but of day-to-day involvement.
As I have suggested elsewhere, ‘now’ is the time to cut out the negativity, stop making wild, aspiration promises and get some decent PR in place.
The ongoing and festering disconnect between owners and fans must be addressed with delay.

I read an article about Sully where he says in hindsight he should have made the change before the start of this season but they wanted to give Slav time, I actually think if they had made that change (even though it would have been the correct decision) they would have got more abuse because people would have said they didn’t back Slav in the transfer market blah blah blah, like you say they are on a hiding to nothing, I also agree with the points that he should have asked them earlier what he was doing wrong and that the other three of his team appeared to be doing nothing to improve matters off the pitch. If he had taken a step back and looked at what was going wrong it was blindingly obvious and he shouldn’t really have even needed to ask.

  • JRS says:

I think he did ask before on 1 on 1 basis but it wasn’t working. But I have to love the bloke for wanting to get it right & his passion.
    Sure he didn’t call Sahko.

Think it’s a shame Sakho is away for next ten days. If I was Moyes I would really have made an effort to get him onside at least until January. If fit (big if) he could make a real difference. My pessimist inner voice says that even if Moyes makes a good start the football gods will send down our annual injury crisis. We have had one in defence already but we never go a season without a period with no strikers fit.

  • Lazurus. rises like a salmon says:

If we all saw what most of the problems were ! Then bilic must shoulder all the blame , he clearly was looking into headlights ! Frankie Mac !! Two days ago he was proud at what he achieved ? He now knows that was nothing really !! Should have been a manager not a mate !

  • Hammer64 says:

If these reports are true ( where did they come from I wonder?) I am encouraged that the players have identified a problem. If they realise they have been getting away with it & have leaked it to somebody then it suggests they might be willing to buckle down for a manager with a tougher approach.

On the other hand, where were the leaders who should have sorted this out? I was watching Leroy’s boy on tv the other night & he was saying at Brighton Hughton has 3 strong characters to do a lot of the sorting out so it isn’t the manager in their faces all the time.I don’t think Bonzo or Nolan would have gone along with players turning up late. Somebody of that type would be worth it for a few million in January. Zabaleta is probably one, but he needs a bit of backup I reckon

  • Hammer64 says:

Incidentally good to see Nolan doing well at Notts County. Top or second I believe. Reckon he could make a good manager if he gets opportunities.
