Gold: “We have one of the best managers in the game”

David Gold this morning welcomed new manager Manuel Pellegrini to the club by declaring: “It’s been a tough week but we have our man and one of the best managers available in the game.

Speaking exclusively to ClaretandHugh the club’s vice chairman said: “We have worked very hard to bring him to the club and hope the fans will be happy with our choice.

“Manuel’s pedigree is clear for all to see. This is a man who has won four league titles in different countries including the Premier League – we don’t think we could have found anybody better.”

Pellegrini’s admission that he had spoken to David Sullivan on several occasions in the past and had the feeling he was really wanted by the club could well have been a decisive factor in the Chilean’s decision to join the club.

And Gold said: “It’s great news for everyone that a man of this stature has joined us to help us achieve the ambitions we have always had for West Ham.”
