Options galore but here’s our Irons team

|

AntonioSlaven Bilic has more options in front of him for Monday night’s game than many West Ham managers before him.

But this in itself can cause a dilemma particularly with various well rated newcomers he may or may not choose to draft into the side.

An argument has been presented on some forums that we can hardly change the team to that which scored such an historic victory at Anfield – I disagree.

That team was set up as a counter-attacking outfit and has already been shown that is not a system which works at the Boleyn where we HAVE to carry the game to opponents.

You can bet your life away that struggling Newcastle, with two points from four games and second off bottom, will come to defend and thus we need to find a way of at last getting that much needed win at home.

It’s a very long time since we have had the wonderful problem in front of us but it makes team selection – as mentioned up top – very difficult.

Carl Jenkinson has served out a one match ban and is available but I’d stick with James Tomkins at right  back behind Victor Moses

Reid, Ogbonna and Cresswell speak for themselves with Noble, Kouyate and Moses in an advanced right sided role.

I’d plump for Antonio on the other side with Payet behind  Sakho as main striker of course.

But it’s a tough old call and is hard on Manuel Lanzini who looked a real prospect at Liverpool and Mauro Zarate (if fit) who has done nothing wrong.

Oh and we haven’t mentioned Andy Carroll!

But at last we have a squad we can rotate. We are stepping up a level and I thing the side I’ve named would give us the attacking impetus and creativity we need to get results.

What do you think?

I would be tempted to play Moses and Antonio on the wings but feel lanzini was one of our best players against Liverpool both attacking and defending.

Really interesting article in the guardian puts us second only to Man city in the goal scoring department. Which tells me we probably need to be more defensive if anything like we were against Liverpool. But I agree hard to sit back at home without the boo boys starting up.

Sort out the defence & we will be flying. A good win against the barcodes will bring confidence to the squad & we should fear no one. Arsenil & L’pool are two of the hardest places to win at & we did both of them in style, goals coming from all over the team. Like i said tight organised defence is the only thing missing. Roll on Monday night COYI 😀

That team sounds fantastic, and I would be happy if Bilic picked it ( or any other combination of our great squad for that matter )
On the other hand as Slaven says above, Lanzini did fantastically well in defending, as well as in attacking ( a perfect wing back roll ) at Liverpool.
I would plump for your team except with Lanzini on the right wing back roll, using 3 centerbacks to cover for Lanzini and Cresswell when they go forwards, which was not happening in our two home games. With Noble and Kouyatie giving more stability from holding roles, and Antonio playing of Sakho up front. Payet would play in the hole behind the strikers.
Call me a coward ( I don’t mind ), but it would be more solid, and I think we would have the best chance to break our home duck.

I would stick with Lanzini and Tomkins.
While it’s a tough one, I would take Antonio at LW in place of Noble, so It would be a more attacking 4-2-3-1, which looks like this

    Randolph
    Tomkins Reid Ogbonna Cresswell
    Obiang Kouyate
    Lanzini Payet Antonio
    Sakho

    Kerrching!!!!!!!!
Looks a good side to start !
Can Antonio defend and cover back with cresswell !!
Also just because we so called parked the bus at An field goes not mean that team can only defend Hugh does it !!!!!!
It was just a tactic applied to the game in question !!
What if the Geordie come and attack !!!!!?
I think we are all being to technical lol it was mistakes which cost us 2 defeats at home
And a ref who is back on Monday !!!
We got goals in the team so let Bilic sort the team out he wants , I’m sure we will
not be disappointed what with the depth !!!!
Its all about who turns up on the night really !!
What ever happens the lads will be up for it what with competition for places and
A few points to prove ,
    Can’t wait !!!!

I think I’d start with the more or less the same team with maybe one debut and introduce another if we are comfortable, Dicks has been back a while now, be nice to see him get a run out in the last 10 minutes

I’d only do minor changes, in fact just one:

    Randolph
    Tomkins Reid Ogbonna Cresswell
    Noble Kouyate
    Lanzini Payet Moses
    Sakho

Bench: Spiegel, Jenkinson, Oxford, Antonio, Obiang, Jelavic, Carroll
(Leaving out Zarate who has just come back from injury, so has Carroll though, so we might as well put Carroll on the bench instead)

      Hi Hamburg,

I was going to name my team then see you picked all the players I would have. We certainly have a lot of options from the Bench for sure Carroll should get some time against his beloved Magpies.

  • sleepswithdafishes says:

shows how good our squad is that we all pick different teams, but there all decent selections.

  • HamburgHammer says:

I’ve read that we will send out O’Brien, Collins and Amalfitano out on loan. While I agree that these are surplus to requirements now and would find it hard to find even a place on the bench I wonder what’ll happen if our usual injuries start to happen.
We still need a big squad and I just wonder if we will at least insist on putting in a release clause in those deals in case of an injury crisis at our club.

  • bubs says:

Sorry Mark but I would play Obiang next to kouyate in front of the back four from Liverpool and play Lanzini,Payet, and Sakho with Moses,Or Antonio,
Carroll or Jelavic on the bench with one of Moses or Antonio,Zarate,Noble,Jenkinson plus Keeper,
That would give the four forward players to mix and match all capable of going wide all comfortable on the ball all goal scorers,
But to be honest I will not be moaning what ever team we pick and expect us to win at home and give us a good vibe to go to Man City,

  • johnboy says:

    Anyway !
What have the roman’s ever done for us ! AY!!!
