Payet cat is out of the bag

|

Dimitri Payet has been offered back to West Ham and Manuel Pellegrini has discussed the option with senior players.

At the same time as CandH was being briefed on the option, which currently stands at around 10 per cent according to our sources, the Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg wrote on Twitter: “West Ham have been offered the chance to sign Dimitri Payet from Marseille. No, it’s not 2015.

“Player’s reps have contacted club. Manuel Pellegrini mulling it over and has sought advice from senior players. It’s come as a surprise partly because of the manner of his departure and also because Payet is thought to be happy in France. Would be a stunning story if it happens”

Moments later ExWHUEmployee – who initially teased the story – confirmed Payet was the player he was talking about on his radio show earlier this week.

He said: “Seeing as it has been leaked now by many sources the player was Payet! Shockingly his agent got in touch with the club because Marseille needs to sell. He said he would be happy to return because the personal issues he had have been resolved. It is very unlikely at this point though”

The CandH poll of nearly 4,000 readers nearly 56% would welcome him Payet back while 44 per cent would not.

If he goes on strike at Marseille and insists he will only move to West Ham perhaps it will go through 😉

Those free kicks must have been worth 10points to us in 2015/16. I watched him in a few games last season & thought that he didn’t look quite the same player. Even the free kicks were not flying in. They also say ‘never go back’. And that is when players have left on good terms with fans! I would be very tempted but I think it would probably end in tears…best to look forward imo.

If Payet is happy to come back to London, working with Pellegrini, it could be a sensational win-win situation for Payet and West Ham-the fans will, in time, forgive him for past deeds; this is one hell of a player who can send the fans into fits of sensational bliss! He is quite capable, if used sensibly (which I am sure Pellegrini would use him), of scoring a minimum of 10 goals and 20 assists in a Premier League season.
    Fingers double-crossed on this one!!

If there is the remotest possibility of this then I would be more than happy for his return. I would drive to Marseille and get him. From a purely footballing perspective I loved watching him every week and the buzz when he got it was amazing and even more so when we got a free kick anywhere in the opposition half. I hate to say it but I have missed that buzz, had it at the end with Arnie baring down on goal but would be great to see Dimi back.

Don’t agree with abusing your own players but if he came back I’d make an exception

  • JMan43 says:

No thanks, those 55% must be completely bonkers, he has no part to play in the Pellegrini era.

I would welcome him back! We all have personal reasons for things…

10 goals and 13 assists from 48 games last season….if he hadn’t had le sulk he would probably still be with us and everyone would be raving at his skills, so the issue is attitude rather than performance plus value for money at his age

Can’t really see him lighting up any EPL club

  • aykay says:

watched marseille on a few occasions and payet is not the same player he seems to have lost his edge ,. We bought him under the exact same circumstance and as soon as marseille had the finances he went on strike to force his way back ,and i could see him doing it sgain , fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me lol

  • mooro66uk says:

Not sure.Watched him a few times last year and wasn’t too impressed. He’s 31 now can only go downhill. Also looks a tad overweight. Why does he have to move on every 2/3 seasons.?Why can he not settle?

  • Hammerman6 says:

Head says NO ! Heart says YES……..best player we have had since Paulo. Similar temperament, without the loyalty. Players like him are few and far between.
Loan deal could be the answer.

  • Hammerkip says:

Oh my god I can’t believe some people would take him back after all the trouble he caused ..plus he is nothing like how he was anymore why do you think they are trying to off load him ..my God tell them to go fk themselves..imo 🙅🙅🙅

  • Hammer-Ash says:

I’d have him back but would need a heart felt apology and full explanation and a deal where it’s no play no pay

  • beex says:

I think an apology is needed from the player.
I loved him like everyone but I was also really hurt by the manner in which he left.
If he apologised publicly then he would get a lot of the nay-sayers onside.
Magnificent player on his day and we would be fools not to at least consider buying him, BUT on OUR TERMS!

  • vegasrockstar says:

    He’s 31 now.
We had him when he was at his peak.
He had his chance to be a West Ham legend and he blew it.
    Time to move on.

  • Clive says:

I didn’t like the way he forced his way out mid season but I understood why a French player might want to go home to a French club because of family problems. If he was forcing his way out because he wanted to Sign for one of the Manchester clubs, or it was all about the money then it would be different. I would take him back and if anyone doesn’t understand that then I would say, but it’s payet, dmitri payet, I just don’t think you understand.

  • Clive says:

    He’s better than Zidan, he’s pellegrini’s man.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

I said at the time, the way he managed it was not the best way but lets take a few things into account, perhaps he did have family problems ? he was promised the same things we fans were about getting to the next level, then two windows had passed and not a single high quality player was signed just a team of potential players, Bilic was running the training like a holiday camp and all of the players levels were dropping including his, that wasn’t what he signed up for, at 31 he has maybe two or three more good years in him, he has the ability to get us in the European mix on his own and if we sign him and Wilshere then you put Arnie into the mix, Carroll for set plays, if Pelle can sort the defence out we will be a whole different prospect next season, I hope a deal can be done, it doesn’t look like Felipe Anderson is going to happen because of the Lazio chairman so lets move on.

    • dusty miller says:

Very good points raised here? Would prefer Bruno Fernandes? But would take Payet to replace Lanzini as a temporary stop gap for a season or two but not for any silly money or wage demands!!!!
