Payet “had been given time off to clear his head”

|

West Ham – according to The Mail’s Martin Samuel – had given Dimitri Payet time off to clear his head ahead of yesterday’s revelations the player wants out of the club.

In explaining the anger that motivated Slaven Bilic to reveal far more than had ever been intended about Payet’s position  Samuel writes: “One escape route (from giving a full explanation)  would be to say Payet had personal issues — not entirely untrue, as this is offered as his motivation for wishing to return to France — and had been given time off to clear his head.”

Coincidentally, that period would likely chime with the duration of the transfer window after which Payet would have no choice but to return to West Ham’s first team or lose as much as £500,000 in appearance fees.”

Samuel’s piece in today’s edition is worth a read where he clearly documents the timetable of events from yesterday and how the news was broken by the manager.

Cut the maggot out of the apple.I expect there is no hope of Batshuayi joining us now if he ever was of course.
The maggot will be filling his ear with bile no doubt.
The rodent has a trail of clubs he has shafted,we are just another in a long list.

Always worth reading. Two ways of looking at it. Some will say that what happened yesterday shows Bilic’s passion, honesty etc. Some will say it is poor management, lack of self control. Samuel is saying there was a way of handling that might have saved the situation. But the killer line is at the end, when he says the stats suggest how important Payet is (was?) to the club. I know many think he hasn’t done much this season. I dunno, but the figures say they are wrong. No doubt he could have done more, but that’s a different question.

All these chances he’s supposed to have created.. I’ve missed only 4 games this season and I have not seen chance after chance go begging. He takes our corners and freekicks and that’s why the stats are so high. Plus he barely crosses from open play anyway as he’s always trying a wonder through ball. That stat is so fake it’s ridiculous.

  • Long Fella says:

It aint rescuable & i had no problem with what Bilic said .He has more passion for our club than that idiot Payet has ever had for all if his previous clubs combined.
There certainly aint much support for Payet across the board in football today, both from ex pros & others still involved in the game.Plenty for Bilic though from those who have managed & walked in the same management shoes as him.

I wasnt dismissing what you said H64.Im more talking to myself unburdening my anger i still have…

  • GW says:

Dimitri who? Can’t be arsed with him and the bloody excuses trotted out for him anymore he ain’t nothing more than a little fat money orientated back stabber who’s mugged everyone off 🙂

  • Long Fella says:

I have seen few fans defending him anymore gw.Even the ones who blindly ranted about it being the boards fault have quietend down having finally done some homework & seen that he has done things like this a few times before. When the majority of the football world are saying he is a yellow belly sulker who is right or wrong.

    • GW says:

Fair enough here’s hoping that the grounds rocking tomorrow and Slav’s name is belted out!! Forget about the little French **** he’s history 🙂

  • JagerChugger says:

So what is the team going to look like tomorrow? Who do we play on the left of the attack? I reckon if given the chance Fernandes could make that spot in the team his.

    Randolph
    Reid Oxford (if fit) Ogbonna
    Byram (if fit) Cresswell
    Obiang Noble
    Lanzini Fernandes
    Carroll

    • JagerChugger says:

Just realised I missed out the real main man of our team…

      Randolphh
      Reid Oxford Ogbonna
      Byram Cresswell
      Obiang
      Antonio Lanzini Fernandes
      Carroll

      • Daboiflip says:

Personally I’d the the team fresh look as allerdayce knows we will be in taters I’d go for
        adrian
        Byrm Oxford Reid cresswell
        Obiang Fernandez
        Fegoulli Antonio. Lanzini
        Fletcher. Martinez

        • JagerChugger says:

Would love to see two up top. One buzzing about making a nuisance of himself and the other you can ping balls off.

        • JagerChugger says:

Also good to see Martinez in there. I know we’re after Hogan and would welcome him to bolster the attack but why oh why is the lad Martinez not getting a chance to show what he can do in the senior team?

Im Payeted out.I am still recovering from my gf & her cursing of him lastnight.I learnt a lot of new french swear words that for sure.I might even use them on here to avoid Hughs swear box he keeps waving at me 😂😂

  • baddowhammer says:

Bilic done the right thing,by the fans.
I still can’t work out if Martin Samuel is having a go at Slav, suggesting he should lie to the fans about time off for personal reasons or not.Perhaps Slav is sick of lying? perhaps the other players are sick of Payets prima Donna, preferential treatment.
Also how does Martin Samuel know what was scripted? COYI

  • Hammer64 says:

Just to make clear. Wasn’t trying to excuse Payet in any way. In my opinion some of the abuse given to leaving players in the past went on a bit too long. But this is disloyalty on a different scale. No excuses for it. Even if he really wants to go back to France he should have handled it better. I thought last season he seemed to have a bit of class about him (as a person) but this just stinks. Samuel is right that we didn’t take him from nowhere & make him great, but he did get an awful lot of love. He doesn’t have to give that back, but he could show it some respect. He is not worth getting angry over, but I am just really really disappointed. I think/hope that a lot of top players will be too, because it just adds to the media view of them all as selfish (add your own swear words!).

  • Radai Lama..Out of contract & available says:

Yeah you qre right 64 he really aint worthy of our anger just contempt 😁
Let him do what he wants,we will move on & he will be long forgotten sooner than his ego would like.

  • jj61 says:

Players are often accused that they don’t have too much intelligence ..but in Payet’s case it is more than true..not to mention character..

  • Radai Lama..Out of contract & available says:

Lol yeah but the little wronged cuddly Frenchman is still being defended by some.Dear little Dimi didnt get what he was promised.Thats alright then lets defend him & sob for him.
What an absolute crock of you know what.
Who we signed or didnt sign in the summer would have made no difference, the tosspot would have still left us.Be it this window or in the summer. Its what he does.
The writing was on the wall last summer so these lunatics who think this has only happened because of the summer signings must have cotton wool between their dumbo ears 😁

  • HamburgHammer says:

So why did Payet handle things like this ?
Is he just greedy, ungrateful, homesick or just a little bit dim and naive, allowing his agent too much say over his career?

  • Colin Irons says:

He handles things like this Hamburg Hammer because it seems to be the way he always handles things.Throws a fit to get what he wants.
Now i dont know the facts but has he had the same agent all his career??
Do players not have many agents these days?
I dont know buddy but i dont think we have to look much further than Payet himself to see who is the instigator of these situations that have arisen at more than just one of his clubs.
History seems to show that he is the problem no matter how many agents get involved…

  • Michael Miller says:

I’ve read what Martin Samuels and the other Daily Mail lads have had to say and a lot of things have become clear to me – I’ve been moaning all Season about how badly the Team has been playing and that something was amiss at West Ham and now it comes out that Bilic and West Ham have been bending over backwards to keep Payet happy. We learn that he’s been given extra time off, and that a blind eye has been eye has been turned to him not trying in Training, and indeed him missing Training altogether for unauthorised reasons etc. Now we also hear that Payet has history of engineering moves from his previous Clubs – this all adds up to a revipe for disaster!

The net effect of all this pandering to your ‘star player’ is to undermine the Team, destroy the Team Spirit and cause resentment and disharmony with and amongst the other players. In fact, destroy the togetherness that any decent Team must have – it all becomes clear!

So what do we do from here, one thing seems obvious, we’ve got to get rid of Payet – his continued presence will only make things worse – Bilic has got to get the remaining lads together, maybe use the ‘Payet situation’ to get the team together against him – Bilic pandering to Payet can’t have helped Team Spirit, he’s undermined his own position and may find it difficult to get the other players back onside.

More quality and new bodies are required urgently – Payet is history – what Bilic has got to do is treat all the players in the same way – Football is a Team Game and the only way you’ll win is as a Team – I only hope that all this hasn’t come too late for West Ham to get out of the mess they’re/we’re currently in!
