Rush for exit creates scary LS issue

|

london-stadium-fansHammers fan and ClaretandHugh follower Robert Hargrave was involved in what could have been a scary moment at the London Stadium at the weekend as he and his wife tried to leave after Arsenal’s third goal.

Rob – who has a seat in block 248 and enters and leaves through turnstiles J or K explained that he noticed a real safety issue as he and his wife  tried to get out of the stadium.

He said: “As we tries to leave after the third Arsenal goal, there was a mad rush for the exit  but only one door of the exit gates at our designated block was available and there was hundreds trying to get through the one way out!

Some were  were trying to open the other doors on this gate but they couldn’t release them.”

Rob was shocked when he finally got through to find there as just one steward on duty and said: ” “He didn’t appear to have a clue what to do.”

“There were children being pushed by the crowd behind through this one door along with my pregnant wife! Imagine if there was an emergency.”

Might be an idea to stay to the end and not rush to the exit when we’re losing.

  • master says:

only part of the story i cared about was that some ‘fan’ left on 80 mins.

  • The Demon says:

You stay the extra seven minutes to see it get to 5-1, mate. That’s proper entertainment and value for money. Me? I’m off beating the rush to the pub rather than watch those clowns rub my nose in it.

    • PT says:

I always stay til the end. You’d be better off in the pub all afternoon “mate”. So would we.

We are all different. Those that stay could be seen as loyal fans or meek fans with low expectations accepting the non efforts of the players. Those who walk out could be seen as demonstrating to the board that the fans don’t like what they are seeing on the pitch and they are sick to their stomachs about the efforts of their team. Personally, I support those who walk out.

        • PT says:

Yep. We are all different. Some are supporting the wrong team if they want a guarantee of fantastic football for ninety minutes every week. Some of us go for 45 years to support the team for the whole game. Very different. That’s the problem.

Never left a game early in my life.
Anyway is this really news worthy?? Just another ‘Dramatic’ article that basically amounts to bugger all..

FWIW I was involved in the rush to the exits towards the end of the Stoke game – I queried with one of the Stewards why there was only one of the gates open and was told that they were Computer controlled and there was nothing they could do to open other gates – seemed a bit stupid to me, not to mention dangerous – but typical of the ‘London Stadium’ where it had not been thought through and would only change when something happened – always after the event!
