Song move rests on length of contract

|

alex-song-west-ham (1)Alex Song will have to settle for a three year deal if he is to make his Upton Park ‘stay’ permanent.

ClaretandHugh has learned the player wants a five year stay but  manager Slaven Bilic believes a three year arrangement is  more suitable.

Barcelona are ready to allow the midfielder to leave on a free transfer and the move to east London now rests on discussions over  the length of contract.

A source said: “Slaven has assessed the situation – as managers do with all signings – and believes a three year deal is the best option in  Alex’s case and it’s now about getting agreement as the player wants five.”

The Irons are in a strong position as the Song family are keen on a move the capital in preference to anywhere else in the Premier League and no other London clubs are in the running for his signature.

Do it. He fits under the “homegrown” rule, I believe, which, with all the speculations on incoming vs outgoing, we may need to keep an eye on.

The way he disappeared 2nd half of last season, should keep Chelsea away LOL, so hold out for the right deal. On the other hand perhaps we should offer 3 years and option.

  • ExPat_Hammer says:

To be fair, most of ’em disappeared in Act 2. Even though he’s more of a d-mid, he has the vision to pick out these wonderfully attack minded passes – trouble is, he seemed to be out of sync with a team that wanted to hoof and cover (as most were). He may be just the sort moving forward.

And why not five years…seems like breaking contracts is de rigueur.

  • Quickdraw Slaven a party says:

To get a five year contract a player must be outstanding and have a good shelf life so that he will play a full part for the team until the end of the contract which is why in 2011 the Copacabana’s very own Nolaninho was given the honour of the five years…….hmm on second thoughts three years sounds a safer bet lol

  • TysonM says:

Sign him up on a five year.If only to p*ss off the wetpants ‘experts’ 😀

  • Dangermouses Bros says:

If he is a freebie sign him up!!No risk in that!!Three yr contract!!Crack on!!!

  • bubs says:

Give him 5 years and get it done if he is free we can always sell him after 3 if we don’t want him,
But for Christ sake give Nolan to someone now for nothing or give them something to take him away

  • eriko says:

What about we give him 3 years and a 2 year extension if he proves he can deliver the whole first season?

or compromise with a 4 year deal?

  • bubs says:

We just gave Noble 5 years and he is not in the same class

  • eriko says:

Is Noble on the same wage bill??
