Sunderland fan site response to Defoe bid

defoeSunderland fan site salutsunderland.com have written an open letter to Jermain Defoe, Slaven Bilic and Sunderland chairman Ellis Short in response to transfer speculation around their star striker and the Hammers interest in him.

They write:

“1. Jermain Defoe: you are not paid to be a Sunderland supporter but you know what adoration you inspire among those who are SAFC fans.

And it is with us that you have been able to remind the world how good you are. Make sure they pay you appropriately but stay, at least least long enough to see us through a crisis that you have made more likely we can overcome. Later on, come back as chairman.

2 Slaven Bilic: read back over your own quotes about JD being up there with the best strikers in Europe – you were talking about movement, but 11 goals so far this season suggests a lot more. Unless you, Karren and the Davids want to be regarded as laughing stocks, multiply your bid by at least seven if only to give a fabulous player the respect he deserves. Oh, and still fail.

3) Ellis Short: yep, you’re a shrewd businessman and I’m not. You’re rich and I am not. You have every reason to resent the way your money has been wastefully spent by your managers (and, remembering PDC, the more ludicrous of their “advisers”). But don’t cut off nose to spite face – if you’re after to sell, losing Defoe won’t help a great deal.”

  1. What is all that about . Poor little team with great support that they do not deserve . Going down is the next high light . Surely £7/10m invested in a team , not an individual , is the only chance they have .

  2. You cant blame them for wanting to keep him.At least they know his worth to a team & the abilities he still has.Not like some of our dozy support who say he is a step back or too old.
    Your having a laugh 😁

  3. Well that is about as cringe worthy as it can get. Hopefully Defoe will read that letter and once he has stopped laughing, he will put in a transfer request.

Imho had we had someone like Defoe in our team from the start of the season, we would be on roundabout the 30 point mark.

  4. Personally I think it is fair enough, whatever the writing style of the author the supporters love Defoe and they need him, he is worth about £50m to them this season because without him they are going down and with their players it might take a while to come back.

    • Its a bit different from one of our fans who came on here last week & said the sunderland fans didnt want him & he was possibly worthy of a non-league club 😁😁
