It took a moment of magnificence from the top man Dim Payet …and once again he didn’t fail us.

Yes it was a tough night but there are very few walkovers in this game and all that REALLY matters is that the Irons moved into the next round and a match against Chelsea at the London Stadium.

But here – are the highlights of a dour and sometimes desperate encounter against League Two Accrington Stanley who battled their hearts out all evening  and to whom we offer warmest congratulations on such a spirited performance.

But in the end it was a moment of Payet power and the knowledge  that sometimes things never change – cream always rises to top – and we will all have everything crossed that this is the start of a turnaround which is long overdue.
