Various reports this afternoon suggest that Jack Wilshere’s representatives are in advanced talks with West Ham over a three-year deal worth around £100,000 per week to the 26-year-old former Arsenal midfielder.
Wilshere is now a free agent after turning down a £100,000 per week offer to stay at Arsenal although the combined signing on and agent fee would run into the millions to make him a Hammer.
Wilshere made 38 appearances last season in all competitions for Arsenal, 20 of those in the Premier League after playing 29 League appearances for Bournemouth the season before.
Speaking in a recent interview Wilshere said: “I have picked up a lot of injuries over my years, when I used to look at my game I found that every time I picked up the ball I wanted to run with it, I wanted to hurt the opposition but now I can pick my time by just passing and moving to a better position”

I will be over the moon when he signs, a great player who is 10 times the player Lanzini will ever be
Not sure about 10 times JMan 🙂 but definitely a lot more end product than Lanzini, would actually like to see them both lined up together, Wilshere is a creator isn’t he, if Lanzini gets back he would probably benefit by being played into scoring positions as would Arnie, we miss someone that can sit on the ball move laterally in midfield (like Song used to do for us) and allow the play to develop in front of them releasing the ball at the right time.
I’m starting to come round to the idea of Wilshere.
His injuries have reduced over the last couple of years and the thought of paying upwards of 30 mil for johnny foreigners of similar ability but with no experience in this league worries the hell out of me!
Wilshere on a free seems the lesser of two evils.
No brainer to me. We’ve got alot of positions we need to fill this summer and if we want real quality in some positions, we’re gonna need to find a few bargains for the others, and to get Wilshere on a free, even at around £100k a week, thats still one of the best bargains we’re gonna find. Had his injury problems in the past and I have no doubt he’ll have a stint in the physios next season, but he’s definitely alot sturdier than he used to be, and actually played majority of the season last year for arsenal and bournemouth the year before. As long as no one starts moaning that it’s ‘the same ol board’, ‘promising big fees and then buying frees’ because that’s a load of crap. Theres only a finite transfer budget, and just because a player is free doesn’t mean that they aren’t quality. Both Wilshere and Fredericks were offered new contracts from their clubs, and both turned them down. I havent seen anyone moan about this point yet but i have no doubt its coming.
