£45m the right price for England star

£45m the right price for overvalued Toney

Much has been written about Ivan Toney’s potential move to West Ham in the past few days. It’s hard to tell whether it’s simply a slow news week due to international football or if there’s genuine interest.

Toney put in a good performance in last night’s 2-2 draw against Belgium, where he scored a penalty for England. He’s a talented player and clearly a skilled penalty taker, but I can’t help but feel that Brentford’s valuation of £70m for him is excessive.

West Ham Target Toney as Long-Term Solution Up Front-£45m the right price for overvalued Toney

Signing Toney comes with risks, considering his recent ban for betting infringements, and at 28, there’s limited resale value. While he’s a capable forward, I don’t see him as a top-level player, so it’s unlikely that big clubs like Manchester City or Liverpool would splash out for him.

I see West Ham as the perfect fit for someone like Toney. However, with financial regulations being more strictly enforced, I doubt anyone would meet Brentford’s asking price.

West Ham should definitely pursue their interest in Toney, but I believe a more realistic valuation would be around £40-45m. Otherwise, Brentford might struggle to find a buyer given the current market conditions. With tighter enforcement of Financial Fair Play regulations, player values are likely to decrease, and clubs will need to adjust accordingly.
