Anyone wanting to buy West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen could be looking at an £80m commitment to get the deal done.

As reported in an exclusive yesterday, Claret & Hugh were informed that Bowen was 50/50 to remain at the London Stadium next season.

That hasn’t stopped Manchester United being linked with a move for the winger today, though.

Manchester United Continue To Circle

The recruitment team at Manchester United—which includes a certain Kyle Macaulay—have been eyeing quite a few Hammers players this week.

But any club wanting Bowen would have to pay at least £50m to convince West Ham to sell, and even that might not be enough.

West Ham are desperate to retain our captain and there is no sense from inside the club that they are looking to cash in.

An £80m Package

Factor in the fact that Bowen would almost certainly want an improvement on his current wages and the overall cost soon begins to mount.

By the time salary increases are factored in, together with the transfer fee, any deal could easily become an £80m package without even taking agents’ fees and signing bonuses into account.

That’s a lot of money for a player who turns 30 next season.

Too Rich For Most?

Of course, many of us hope Jarrod remains because of his love for the football club.

But it could simply be that the numbers involved are a little too rich for a 29-year-old, particularly when there are younger options available elsewhere.

And perhaps that’s West Ham’s biggest ally in all of this.

If Man U buy all the Hammers players they are linked with they will be giving us close to £200 million!
