Report: Moyes tracking £40m Brazilian striker

|

David Moyes is reportedly keeping an eye on the situation surrounding Flamengo forward Gabriel Barbosa.

Inter Milan spent €29.5m (£25m) for the Brazilian forward from Santos in 2016 but last year Flamengo bargained the price down and signed the 24-year-old for €17.45m (£14.8m).

The Daily Mirror says the young forward has a buyout clause of €50million (£42.7m) but it is understood a fee of around £40m could be enough to tempt Flamengo into selling,

The 24-year-old has fuelled the fire by praising how David Moyes’ side fared in the 2020-21 season, achieving their highest-ever points total and qualifying for the Europa League. David Moyes is reportedly keen on signing Gabriel Barbosa from Flamengo claims the tabloid.

He added: “I really enjoyed the West Ham season. I’m a big fan of Premier League football.”

Barbosa has also touted his services to Liverpool in the hope of reuniting with his compatriot Roberto Firmino having spoken of his admiration of the Reds.

Barbosa has scored 68 goals in 96 games for Santos and last season he scored 21 goals in 38 games for Flamengo.

Weren’t we linked to this guy when he was at Inter? Somehow I can’t see us throwing £40m at him when we wouldn’t pay the same for Abraham who is a young English player with Premier League experience. A loan with a non-compulsory option maybe but otherwise I think this one is pure paper talk.

West Ham do not have the money to pay £40m for one player. Looking at the bench for the game against Brentford showed how we badly need more players, notwithstanding that there were about six first teamers missing. All the commentators and pundits mentioned that Moyes needs supporting in the transfer market by the Board yet so far our dealings, barring Areola, have been all talk. We need signings badly and need to see some positive moves being made now, starting with Pereira, a centre-forward and a centre-back.

As Sutton said its farcical…..every pundit can see it 99% of fans can see it but still nothing….shocking, even by our standards…..European football and we have 3/4 of a striker who can play 15 /20 games a season …1 more forward even isn’t enough..we need 2 imo ….you notice how easily the kids for non league and lower league clubs are coming in droves..they get them done in hours …beggars belief…and they wonder why protests are being organised

This time last year we had two strikers, one of whom couldn’t get a touch on the ball. We end up, by some miracle, in sixth and would have been in CL had it not been for some suspect efforts by teams above us. We are doing OK.
Build slowly, with a view to the future. We will not win EPL or Europa this year.

Chairmen don’t want to back Moyes or can’t afford to is what appears to be the case. This particular version is a non story, player moved back to Brazil because he wanted too even though on less money, it’s imho just recycled story from a year ago, we should be all out for a striker, Paul Onauchu, Wout Wieghorst, Patson Daka etc we get linked with all of these players nothing materialises, we desperately need players 4 or 5 of first team calibre. We have a good one in Areola but what of the rest ?
