The managerial saga at West Ham has taken a bizarre twist, with a second of our main targets now being linked with a move to Serie A.

According to Italian media outlets, both Milan and West Ham United are eyeing the same candidates in the coaching market. After Julen Lopetegui, Paulo Fonseca has emerged as another shared interest.

It was reported today that Lopetegui expressed a preference for Milan over West Ham, only for Milan to retreat following a backlash from their fans.

Reports claim that Fonseca, who is also on the Hammers’ radar, had been previously linked to Milan by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sky Sport Italia, among others.

Currently managing French side Lille, Fonseca will become a free agent when his contract expires on June 30.

The 51-year-old Portuguese tactician previously managed in Serie A with Roma from 2019 to 2021, where he recorded 53 wins, 21 draws, and 28 losses in 102 competitive matches.

While it might just be media speculation and websites echoing each other’s stories, there appears to be some truth to the rumour that Milan’s supporters were as unimpressed with Lopetegui as West Ham’s fans.

Confused? So am I.
