Water policy contradicts Premier League eco campaign

|

West Ham supporters were banned from bringing in plastic bottles and cans to the London Stadium last night in a new change of policy.

In the past, Hammers fans were allowed to have bottle lids removed but still bring in bottles of water but that has now changed and all liquids must be decanted at security checkpoints into plastic cups making a mockery of the Premier League campaign to pass-on plastic. Reusable water bottles and thermos flasks have also been banned.

In the past, West Ham piloted reusable cups at the London Stadium as part of a Sky Ocean Rescue campaign to raise awareness and to help combat climate change.

The same process is happening inside the London Stadium with bottles purchased in Delaware North bars decanted into single-use cups while the plastic bottles are discarded by stadium staff.

Last night, West Ham Supporters Services announced on social media  “Bottles or cans brought to the stadium will be decanted into plastic cups during the search, with all drinks purchased both in the Stadium and on the Stadium Island also being decanted. Please be aware that Thermos flasks will not be allowed onto the island.”

Last week, Manchester City stadium staff banned supporters from bringing in bottles of Suncream during the recent heatwave, Claret and Hugh have asked the  West Ham supporter’s services whether bottles of suncream are also prohibited items for Sunday but have yet to receive a reply.
