Decisions looming on players contracts

This has been a season of huge upheaval at West Ham with a massive overhaul of playing staff. Multiple players departed at the end of the previous campaign, and have been replaced by new signings, who have settled with varying degrees of success.

Undoubtedly the rapidly changing face of the Hammers squad has contributed to our poor form, but tough decisions will need to be made again, as another batch of players approach the end of their current deals.

The Irons have seen their list of players moving into the final six months of their contracts fall from eight to five this week following three departures. Craig Dawson left West Ham to join Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers, and  goalkeeper Darren Randolph signed for Bournemouth on Thursday.

Shortly after Randolph’s south coast switch was confirmed, it was announced that academy graduate Conor Coventry’s contract had been extended, before being sent out on loan to Rotherham for the remainder of the season.

That leaves manager David Moyes with five senior players left to decide upon before their contracts expire at the end of June. Of those five, the club have options to extend the deals of Lukasz Fabianski, Vladimir Coufal and Manuel Lanzini.

Angelo Ogbonna and Harrison Ashby are the other two players with contracts due to finish this season. Whatever the outcome it’s clear West Ham face another significant overhaul.
