Stuart Pearce is returning to the club as an assistant to new manager David Moyes after a 16 year absence from the club.

Psycho turned out 50 times in claret and blue and has been a hot favourite to take up a position since the day Moyes was appointed as boss. He starts in his new role on Monday.

Speaking to the official site he said: “I’m really looking forward to coming in and getting involved

“The opportunity to work with David Moyes, who I have respected greatly over the years, was a big factor, as was having previously played for the club.

“It’s been many years since I was there for a couple of seasons, but I really enjoyed my time. The West Ham fans were fantastic to me and I’m looking forward to coming back.

“It’s tough times at the moment but it’s a fantastic opportunity for me. I’m really excited by the challenge.”

The manager – having appointed Alan Irvine as an assistant -also hopes to confirm  Billy McKinlay – currently in a caretaker role at Sunderland – as a third assistant in the coming days.

In that case, I imagine Hart and Adrian will have to start putting in some extra training as potential centre-forwards.

I’ve always like Harry Redknapp’s story about when he had to phone up Stuart Pearce’s missus up after he had broken a leg.

Redknapp says ‘I’m sorry to say Stuart’s broken a leg!’
Pearce’s wife has supposed to have come back with ‘Whose?’

Believe that or not, Redknapp’s full of these stories!

Put on ‘God Save the Queen’ and get the defense in sorted & keep them fit. Also gives Moyes a link to the club which I think is important
