No manager can survive six straight defeats in a row

|

There is an unwritten rule in the Premier League that no manager can suffer six straight defeats in a row and survive. With four straight defeats in the Premier League against Liverpool, Bournemouth, Arsenal and Wolves Pellegrini now faces Everton and Chelsea as he attempts to get a single point on the table. The club record of losing the opening four Premier League games of the season has only been equalled by Avram Grant.

The Hammers remain the only club yet to score a point and remain firmly at the bottom on the Premier League table with an abysmal goal difference of minus eight. Only Huddersfield have such a worst goal difference but they have managed to earn two points in their opening four games.

The problem with the Premier League is it doesn’t give you time but its time that Pellegrini desperately needs to change the Hammers style and get them playing as a team.

I hope fans and the board will continue to support Pellegrini even if he loses the next two tough games, Chelsea is unbeaten winning all four-games on 12 points while Everton is also unbeaten with one win and three draws on six points.

In Pellegrini I still trust.

Too many changes made simultaneously imo.
Like throwing mud at the wall and hoping something will stick.
Can we afford to give him the Spanish archer though, as the compo due would make a huge hole in our winter transfer market budget I would assume. Unless of course there’s a performance-related clause in his contract (I’ve an uneasy feeling we could still be pointless after the first 8 games)😱

Needs to produce something quickly to maintain the trust of the supporters . The Avram Grant record looks up for the taking at the moment . The way we are playing the Chelsea & Everton games could very well put Pelligrini on course to beat the AG record and surpass it.
Hopefully it won’t happen but , I don’t share the same trust as some . Probably best to say goodbye now before things a lot worse . Might win a few games , and as a Premiership team should . But as far as I can see it won’t , at the moment , be hardly enough .
The Dave’s have slipped up , I wouldn’t say it’s Thier fault given Pelligrini’s CV But they should have given Moyes a fair crack at the whip .

But how much time would you give him? He had a full pre season. He had £100m to spend, allegedly as he wanted. He had a couple of winnable(definitely drawable) home games. Sum total=0

I am not advocating the chop yet, but there has to be some improvement soon. Points obviously, but more important is some sense of direction, some evidence that he can organise the defence & some collective effort from the players. I don’t think he is up to the job but in a month’s time would be happy to be proved wrong.

Beat should have read. ; Equal . Sorry folks .

Pelle will be given time, despite results the way we play (in general) is an improvement on the last few seasons, the players need to put more effort in on matchday and gel, Sanchez, Balbuena, Diop, Fabianski are trying hard, Fredericks has undoubted pace but Zaba still looks a far better player at his age.

    Hypothetical for you Hugh/Sean.
If we are still pointless after 8 games, as is entirely possible, stick or twist?

I seem to remember John Lyall losing six in a row in the season after we finished third (or perhaps it was two seasons later) when Stewart Robson called for all hands to the pump

The problem is that in the Premier League era there is more to lose from relegation so there is less patince

Pelle is now second favourite to be the first manager to lose his job

I was one who was for Moyes to be given a chance, but the current situation does not give me any joy

My honest accesment of the way things have panned out is , 4,2,3,1 amounts to playing 4,2,4 and that formation of Tora Tora Tora is committing suicide in today’s game especially in West hams case so far ? I go back to the 1970 world cup and Brazil won the World cup with that formation good in that time, but midfielders are today as much defenders as attacker’s and vice versa. Having wing backs and wingers don’t work as yesterday proved you cannot have Anderson out left all the time with Creswell, and the same the other side Antonio and Snodgrass and then Yarmolenko all out wide ? No one except Arnie in the middle but always slightly behind ??? No one is making those runs though the middle anymore like Lanzini would under Moyes or Bilic? Anderson needs to cover that role in a more central role with Arnie? Play a 4,3,3 or 5,3,2 but for pitys sake drop the 4,2,3,1 it ain’t working????

    • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Pelle has never shown any desire to do that but there is a real case to perhaps mirror the 343 we witnessed yesterday it looks very solid and compact if we could get the front three to play like Liverpools we could cause more problems unfortunately they look like strangers and certainly don’t operate as a team, Arnie doesn’t pass to Antonio, Antonio doesn’t pass to Arnie and Anderson doesn’t seem to be on the same wavelength as aither yet, I think we should consider playing Yarmo on the left where he can give us width and Anderson on the right to give width, Hernandez should stay on the bench.

  • Clive says:

The problems are of our own making. Moyes and Pearce and co weren’t a failure. They worked hard to turn us around in only six months with hard graft and team work alone not with 100k transfer kitty. But they were rewarded by being shafted, stabbed in the back and replaced after only six months in the job. Now the problem is if pellegrini is sacked who would want to come and manage the circus that is West Ham?

    • hammers64 says:

Well put Clive.I for one could see Moyes taking us in the right direction last season.Team of strangers playing now which is summed up in the fact that poor Declan Rice cannot get a start amongst all these newbies.

    • Spotted Dog says:

Well said Clive. They did well with what they had, stopping the leaks at the back and I’m sure with Pelle’s budget they could have moved to the next stage of improving teh mid and front lines. My belief is that the fans’ aggression towards the owners frightened them and they knew they’d get more of the same if Moyes stayed, no matter how much they spent.

      • zahama says:

I agree with these sentiments. I watched the second half of Man Utd Burnley and Man U were playing two strong defensive midfielders (Felliani and Matic) in addition to Pogba. If we are to play 4-2-3-1 then the two must be strong so one cannnot be Wiltshire

The problem is Wiltshire is a No 10 – same as Anderson – so how do we accomodate both. It will be interesting to see what the owners do if we lose the next two or three – I would go cap in hand back to Moyes.

While Burnley were well beaten (it could easily have been 5 or 6) – they showed fight and spirit right up to the end. The question is whether Pelle can instill that spirit in our team

At least Moyes and team were able to do that

  • Hammers in the blood 1 says:

I can’t believe we are blaming the manager , I don’t think they are listening to him this is not what he coaches. The players are to blame , their was no closing down, passion fight nothing . They need to engage their brains listen learn and put it into practice. Are we always going to blame every manager we have , remember sack Allardyce , sack Moyes come on the players need to take responsibility here .

  • dusty miller says:

Couldn’t agree more Clive, spot On!!!!

  • claret says:

I think Moyes would have ensured any new players had PL experience & he would have ensured-he bought good midfielders something MP has failed to do Wilshere was only bought because he was cheap & unfortunately MP did not replace Noble Sanchez was a very late afterthought I dread to think what we would have done if we never bought him
I think MP has been caught out by the pace & quality of the Prem he has been away too long the players he has bought are not up to the job he has a real problem on his hands he can have no exscuse he brought all his team with him and now it is up to them to prove their worth

  • cas_blue says:

I’m done. I’m utterly fed up. I felt like this yesterday coming home and thought I’d feel better today. I don’t. I’ve had it. More for so for my ten year old who asked “why is it always like this?”
We were sold a dream and into a third season and it goes from bad to worse. I’m not overreacting, it sums up everything that we feared when we moved from the Boleyn. The soul is gone from the club. I watched the Bobby Moore Lower trying to get the crowd going yesterday and there was nothing, no response.
I love this club, but I think it’s broken. Gutted.
