VAR scrapping…the poll decision

|

Hammers followers on ClaretandHugh have voted by a landslide for VAR to be scrapped.

Outraged fans saw a Tomas Soucek goal ruled out against Chelsea as the Irons became the worst affected club by VAR decisions.

Fortunately the club’s terrific new midfielder later scored his first goal  anyway but the whole issue of video assistant referees was thrown into heated discussion.

In  CandH‘s latest poll we simply asked whether or not it should be scrapped and the supporters are in no doubt whatsoever.

With over 1300 votes cast so far, a total of 1,003 or 76.04 per cent were for the system to be killed stone dead with just 316 votes – or 22.96 per cent – saying it should be retained

    VAR isn’t going anywhere.

What planet are the 22% that voted to keep VAR living on?

The principle is rightg but the way it’s being used is totally ridiculous.

It was introduced to remedy clear and obvious errors. If you have to study a computer, pixel by pixel for 3 minutes and 20 seconds to find a reason to disallow a goal, it is not clear and obvious. If a mistake is not obvious from the original camera angles after two/ three scans then the referees decision should stand. A time limit should be introduced, say i minute. If nothing is found in that time then Refs decision stands. The officials are losing all their authority, linesmen barely bother to lift their flags. Some of the decisions can only be described as nit picking. It is so frustrating for both the fans in the stadiums and the TV audience.
I think it is a good idea at base but the parameters need to change.
