Roma are beginning to look very much like Manchester United when it comes to talking the talk over signing West Ham players.

Because according to transfer ITK Fabrizio Romano, the Serie A side have now made their much-promised third bid for Crysencio Summerville and, quite frankly, it’s rather underwhelming.

According to Romano, Roma have offered €47 million plus add-ons for Summerville which, roughly translated, equates to around £40 million.

That’s still some £10 million short of the West Ham hierarchy’s reported valuation.

Roma Still Falling Short

Writing on X, Romano said:

“Understand AS Roma submitted their third official bid for Crysencio Summerville.

West Ham received today €47m plus add-ons official proposal for Dutch winger.

Whilst I’m not sure how the Italians are used to doing business, they clearly expect to get their way because earlier this morning their national media was awash with declarations that they were on the verge of signing the West Ham winger.

A much-improved offer was expected, with the gap between Roma’s valuation and West Ham’s described as “narrow”.

A Chasm, Not A Gap

Now perhaps something has been lost in translation because what they would consider to be narrow appears to me to be a chasm.

Not only do I not expect this offer to be accepted by West Ham, I’m not entirely sure they’ll be able to muster the enthusiasm to reject it.

To me, Roma simply don’t look like serious players.

It is believed Aston Villa could soon enter the bidding and, with around £117 million tucked neatly into their wallet following the sale of Morgan Rogers to Chelsea, the Midlanders may well prove far keener to get this deal wrapped up than the Italians currently seem to be.

As Claret & Hugh has consistently reported throughout the summer, West Ham’s position hasn’t changed.

Meet the asking price… or don’t expect to sign the player.
