Amorim’s West Ham tug of war

Ruben Amorim is still under consideration by some members of the West Ham board as a potential replacement for David Moyes. This interest comes at a time when Chelsea, West Ham’s London rivals, are also reportedly eyeing the Portuguese manager.

West Ham are set to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in a Premier League fixture on Sunday, but it appears the two clubs might be competing for more than just league points.

Amorim has reportedly been attracting attention, initially flirting with Liverpool and now seemingly with Chelsea, who are rumoured to be growing impatient with manager Mauricio Pochettino. Chelsea’s 2-0  win over Tottenham midweek will have eased some pressure on the former PSG boss but he remains under pressure.

Whilst West Ham seemed close to appointing Julen Lopetegui, there remains some hope that Amorim could be persuaded to join the London Stadium. A significant hurdle, however, is the £12 million release clause demanded by his current club, Sporting Lisbon.

    Is it a bit early to say yet;
We know every player Saga goes on for Months but
FFS Will the Manager Job do the same
I cant say its ever got to that stage YET
All Sully jobs seem to drag on forever

So if someone is in place by August I’ll be surprised

  • Peter R says:

The fear for all, a new manager nobody sees as an improvement.
A manager starting on a shaky ground is not logical, we want a front foot team builder with an history to back check.
Get this wrong and the poor man is doomed from his first training session.

Unfortunately Sullivan rarely gets it right at West Ham-frustrating the hell out of the supporters. I hope Tom gets to poke the bear and try and take control over the manager.

  • Tezzard says:

Why is 12 million a significant hurdle ?

Because Sullivan is a small minded cheapskate at heart.

Wants us to challenge the top 6 , but you won’t see any of them refusing an appointment for this reason.

Also , In context to the money wasted on players who dont play then sold at a loss, it’s peanuts.

  • Deathblow says:

squabbling over 12 million when they’ve wasted triple that on poor Danny Ings and fc sportwashing partyboy failure. Not to mention virtually giving Sebastion Haller away.
Imbecile Sullivan willing to throw money away on panic buys, but won’t spend money on who could be our most important manergial appointment ever. Shows this club is run by idiots.

  • Kevin waylen says:

Sullivan and kretinsky can’t afford £12m ??? It’s an absolute joke? We waste money on Phillips and other poor signings yet won’t pay £12m release clause?

  • Bennyboy baker says:

Sullivan is a money grabbing so and so he wants the cheapest option not the best option it would be amazing if he put his hand in his pocket and paid for the best for a change like they say you get what you pay for any manager dealing with him is always going to find it tough to get him to spend on elite players

  • Bazza says:

I’ve been a WHU fan for 65yrs, been through all the ups and downs.
If Sullivan appoints Julen Lopetegui then I’m done with the hammers.
Why appoint Tim Steitden if he is not allowed to do his job? He knows more about football
    than Sullivan.
What’s 12 million these days? At least we’ll get a team with a more forward approach. Value for money.

    • Dave says:

That’s gutwrenching Bazza. I hope we get Amorim, for YOUR sake. 6 decades-plus, down the proverbial, cos of these Brummie wrecking lowlife pimps.
We all long for the day they go… pockets brimming, no doubt , and the Hammers in tatters. And someone with class and nous comes in.
We need veterans like yourself to show the youngsters what we are .
West Ham United so much better than this grubby little board of small-minded football hating racketeers.
You keep your colours flying proud…
Claret and blue -till death us do part.
      IIRROONNSS!!!!! Dave.

  • mark wiggins says:

I tell you now we need a progressive manager not another diverging DM 2.0 . So not Lopetegui. Why not spend 12 on the right manager or look at others Fonseca as an example . We need a a squad rebuild too so get the manager right . Last thing we need is another pragmatic manager .⚒

  • Paul. says:

Doo anyone on the ”So-Called-Board” ever sit down and read any of the comments the true ”IRONS” suporters comments on who’d they prefur to bee our next manager ???

If not. for ”Christ-Sake-Mr-Sullivan” listen to someone that knows all there is to know about football. especially in Germany

    • Paul. says:

Just another little point id like to add. Sullsvan ‘s talking about getting into european football again, and in the next breath is putting a 68 million price-tag on who in my personal opinion when he’s played has been the second best attacker on the field with 11 goals and i think 7 assists to his name. ”Absolutely-Crazy”

  • Paul. says:

Sorry forgot to name him ”Mo-Kudas” lol

  • Jeff adamson says:

Same as Bazza, watched first game in 1964,seen really good managers and football over the years, had crap chairman before i.e Brown, kicking out Bobby Moore out of Upton park because he didn’t have a ticket !!
Like everyone says £12 million,we lost double that on Anderson,Haller and Scamacca, who looks like will play in Europe final.
Moyes said over a year ago “I want young hungry players”, he bought Ings, was looking at Ross Barkley,Dier, Henderson !!.
Lopetegui is out of work,no compensation so it fits Sullivan’s pockets because of what he and Moyes have wasted on players.
    Depressing at the moment.

  • Bazza says:

If Sullivan does not employ the manager we the supporters want, then we should all boycott all home games (no 60,000+ income).
That will hit the board in their own pockets.
    Without supporters no revenue!

  • Lawson Regis says:

You hear the wants to take us to the next level but if they make Lopetegui our next manager we might as well stick with Moyes because it would be same all same all but with a spanish twist.. The board haven’t got any ambitions like they make us believe because if they did they wouldn’t entertain a manger who couldn’t cut the mustard at wolves….

    • Bob says:

Yes, I’m another West Ham supporter of 65 years. If they keep Moyes, or go for the Wolves reject , I will walk away from West Ham, I will also be placing a bet with the bookies that West Ham will be relegated next season. All the Moyes luvvies seem to be forgetting that we were two results away from being relegated last season??????

  • Bonzo says:

Sullivan needs to leave West Ham as soon as possible he has no idea at all. He just wants to finish 10th

His idea of a good manager is 20 years behind

The club will never progress till he has gone
