“Answers being demanded” | Hammers ‘C-word’ issue pinpointed in new report

The 2024-5 season will be consigned to history after four more games: Whilst the fans will certainly be looking forward to the end of next month, a new report today has highlighted the likely cause and the effects of West Ham’s rapid decline under Graham Potter’s management.

Eight points dropped from late goals being conceded in four of the Hammers’ last six games has become a recurring nightmare for spectators and the manager alike – as evinced by Potters’ uncharacteristic outburst after the stressful last minute defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion last week. The telegraph.co.uk sums it up perfectly today as being “West Ham’s season of recrimination and regret”:

“What has caused particular alarm at West Ham, with answers being demanded, is the number of late goals conceded…..Those late collapses have led to angry questions being asked about the mindset and the commitment of some West Ham players and a sense that they became complacent given there was never a real danger of relegation due to the failure of the three promoted clubs.”

Surely the ultimate condemnation of so-called professionals is to be labelled as complacent: Fans can only hope that the labelling of West Ham’s “ageing and unbalanced squad” will sting the team into a response where it matters- on the pitch and not in front of a microphone.

Complacency amongst players can possibly  have been (main pic) Niclas Fullkrug’s thinly veiled message behind his own four-letter word strewn outburst: It may also account for what may be called a ‘rebuild’ but which is, in all truth, a summer ‘cull’ which is coming at the end of this awful season.
