Arnie learns a Pellegrini lesson

|

Marko Arnautovic is fine and is suffering no injury whatsoever and may well have learned a life lesson on the Manuel Pellegrini style of management yesterday!

He was subbed as a precautionary message after feeling a pain in his back according to Manuel Pellegrini and the frustration that followed as he sat on the bench watching was the only problem he had.

Pellegrini has shrugged off the suggestion that there are any issues with Arnautovic, insisting that the striker was determined to continue but could not be risked adding the striker “was only angry for a minute.”

“Marko felt a pain in his back and at the beginning he wanted to recover, but he could not continue.

“It was not good to take a risk as he has just returned after an injury and he played 90 minutes less than 72 hours ago and 65 minutes in the other game, so it was good for him not to continue.

“There is no problem and he scored a goal.”

ClaretandHugh says: Marko learned an important lesson about the manager yesterday – very simply, don’t plant the thought that he may have to take you off whoever you are. Looking back at yesterday’s event, it seemed clear that he was injured as he remained down for a while and this is not a new situation as far as Marko is concerned. There have been several occasion this campaign where similar incidents have seen him finally leave the action early with what has appeared to be a worrying problem. In reality he has eventually turned out for the next game without having had an injury. Pellegrini is clearly not a man who is going to be cowed by a demonstration of frustration and near anger once his decision is made by any player. Arnie’s strong personality or not – he will be treated the same as any other player. It may also serve to remind him and the others that if there is any thought of milking a situation that may not be the best idea and a substitution could rapidly follow.

Yup, maybe he’ll be a little less mardy from now on and focus on getting his game even better.

I would be more worried if he felt he could have gone on just coming off fine and happy!

Pellegrini might look like a mild mannered sort of person but i don’t think he is going to take any BS off players even a strong willed liked arnie.

He rode to the rescue last season & that was great. But it’s not really healthy for a side to be too dependent on one player- as we discovered with Payet. So the recent good results when he was unfit & his substitution yesterday may be sending him a useful message. It needs to be backed up though. Either in Jan or the summer we are going to need somebody who can compete with him, or replace him if he moves on.

I think you will find he had the slight aggravation before the game started. Any infliction after and Pellegrini would take him off. This Pellegrini saw and acted.
Previously Arnautovic has dictated when he can play or not. Now the boss has declared who is in charge.
Arnie will be fine with several days off.
    Now for the Arse.

    • I think you will find Pellegrini said there was nothing wrong if you read his quotes as is the info I have received. He needs to get on with it and stop this regular “oh dear look at me ” stuff. Great player big ego

Very good player . All teams need good players if they are to go forward . Good or even the Great players ( Arnie isn’t there just yet ) need managing and Pelligrini is doing what he considers to be best for the club . There are a lot of games ahead of us and maintaining a injury hit squad is no easy task . Players are returning from injury and need time to get up to full match fitness . No point in risking more injuries to an already full treatment room . The media love to invent stories .

I think Pellegrini did the right thing. better to be cautious than to lose one of your best players, the cup would be nice but the bread and butter is the league and getting into a European place, although Birmingham huffed and puffed at no point did I ever feel like we weren’t going to win the match.

Arnies temperamental. A bit narcissistic by nature. He reminds me a bit of Dicanio the way he used to carry on sometimes. I don’t think Pellegrini will have any trouble handling Arnie. It does follow a pattern of behaviour with him though. Arnie is just a bit of a drama queen. Just when you think he’s done and he’s going to have to come off he is just as likely to spring up, run forty yards and stick one in the net. In a disciplined environment you have to treat everyone the same but sometimes with these special personalities you just have to accept that’s how they are. Everyone gets to know how they are and accept that maybe to get the best out of them you just have to allow them to be the way they are for the benefit of the team. That’s how Harry Redknapp managed Pauli Dicanio.

He obviously took him off because we need him for next game but I think its good a player deperately wants to stay on the pitch and is p off about being subbed!

  • zahama says:

I think that Pelle got it right by saying that Arnie was angry for 1 minute – so to him it is not an issue

  • ozzdog50 says:

Personally I think Arnie is a top player for us but comes with a big ego. I feel he showed no respect to the manager , teammates or us supporters. Pelle is trying to build a squad that has goals from all the team and to take this great club to the levels we have only dreamt of previously . This manager has the best cv of all our previous managers he is respected over the world as a manager and as a man . However great Arnie feels he is he was wrong to react in the way he did.
