Arsenal reject Hammers approach for striker

|
Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal have no intention of selling Eddie Nketiah to West Ham in January.
The Irons were reported as seeing Nketiah as a replacement for Sebastien Haller but Arsenal want to keep Nketiah.
The London Evening Standard claimed West Ham were tracking Arsenal striker Nketiah as they search for a replacement.

The 21-year-old is into the final 18 months of his contract at Emirates Stadium and West Ham have been keen to find out if the Gunners would be open to a deal.

The striker scored the winning goal in Arsenal’s league victory over West Ham in just the second match of the season, but the youngster had to wait for his opportunity after starting on the substitutes’ bench.

Nketiah became the all-time leading scorer at England U21 level by scoring his 14th goal for the Young Lions, moving him one clear of Alan Shearer and Francis Jeffers’ joint-record.

The striker is yet to agree a new contract with Arsenal and funds from his sale could be reinvested in the squad.
Manager Mikel Arteta wants to keep the forward at Arsenal, but the youngster is assessing his options as he wants assurances over game time.

Wouldn’t suit our tactics. Small and nippy poacher – would be eaten alive with long balls up to a lone front man. Stay well clear.

Not sure how you can reject an approach when there was absolutely none. Not in anyone’s dreams would we be discussing this guy as a replacement for Haller. You know we are going up the table not down the table. No approach, no bid and not even discussed, 100% paper talk. I have a few Arsenal fans as friends but they don’t rate him as highly as Saka or other young players. We are no longer a club who buys player that other clubs do not want.

The virtual certainty of getting a lot more game time and a pay rise may turn his head, but that doesn’t mean the Arse will sell. Onus could be on the lad to make his feelings known. But how many of these ‘targets’ are real. We need to bring in two non-pensioner strikers, but is the money there for it? A purchase and a loan-to-buy may be the answer.
