Wily Wenger refuses to be drawn into Stadium spat

|

Britain Soccer Premier LeagueArsenal boss Arsene Wenger was on his best behaviour today – and didn’t put a foot wrong when grilled by the media over the row that has erupted about West Ham’s successful Olympic Stadium bid.

Reporters quizzed Wenger about the possible need for a public inquiry into the rental of the stadium by the Hammers – and, in particular, they wanted to know whether the deal gave West Ham an ‘unfair’ advantage?

“Look it is very difficult to speak out on that because I don’t know the case,” commented a very diplomatic Wenger.

“Any decision like that should be explained, because it is of public interest. It should be clearly explained what has happened. But I don’t know whether West Ham get an advantage or not.

“It is good in my opinion that the Olympic Stadium is utilised… and for a club like West Ham to be advantaged or not, I don’t know.”

In a bid to lure the wily Gunner boss into a cul-de-sac, one hack started asking questions about the finances for the new stadium.

Wenger’s response was short and to the point: “We have the advantage of owning and West Ham will not have that advantage.”
